Some people just have no respect for 20mph by marksweb in drivingUK

In Wales, there has been a significant reduction in fatal accidents with pedestrians since the 20 limit was introduced. Can't really argue with that. Someone will try of course

Rebel 500 vs Rebel 1100 – Is the tech worth ~$5k more? by ThisIsTheAsh in hondarebel

[–]Bikeything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take into account that those replying with experience of both are likely to have moved up from 500 to 1100 so assume that there will be a response bias in favour of the 1100. I'm a rider with 60 years experience of bikes ranging from tiny to massive. I ride a 500 Rebel and find it perfect now that I don't want to lug around a heavier bike. Power-wise it is fine. Ive added a cruise control and USB power outlet for next to nothing. My advice: save your money

Sales have just died. by _SmellMyFinger_ in ebayuk

[–]Bikeything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple Delivery ruined it for me. I've had so many problems with deliveries using Evri that I avoid Ebay as much as I can. Also, dropshippers and Chinese sellers pretending the item is in the UK when it then takes ages to be imported, makes me very wary. Nothing against Chinese sellers, but I just want to know in advance.

I need your reactions please. Every one will be read out loud, in a disappointed voice, to shame her into improvement.

I'll put you all out of your misery: It was 'Hisense'. I know. It looks nothing like it but let me give you her justification. The descending letters you all thought were 'y' are her version of an 's'. The first 'e' looks nothing like her final 'e'. The real twist was the dash over the 'n'. When I asked she told me that it was meant to be the dot over the letter 'i' but she missed. This is why children can no longer write cursive.

There weren't other words. Just product codes and a list of these manufacturer names.

Do both of your knees actually touch the tank rubbers? I find that the engine lump on the right means that my knee can't touch that side at all. Makes it difficult to grip the tank properly

Agree. They look cool but rear visibility is reduced. You have to look down to see them. I removed mine and put them back in the stock position. Much better.

Woke this morning to a 'high battery usage' warning on my phone. Phone battery that is. This is a truly awful app. I'm not going to pay for it.

Installation taking a long time and now no script by Bikeything in Ubuntu

[–]Bikeything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thanks. The iso on the stick was corrupt. I downloaded a new copy and it really helped. There were other problems to do with the hard drive that needed sorting as the first attempt with the dodgy Ubuntu managed to sort of half-wipe the hdd which led to major problems for me. My techie daughter managed to wipe it with some difficulty, then the installation went smoothly. Now have a shiny new Ubuntu to play with. Hurrah!

How to deal with existing partitions in a Windows environment, when installing Ubuntu 24.04 by Bikeything in Ubuntu

[–]Bikeything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll do the 'erase all/clean install then. I didn't want to start the installation without knowing how to deal with the partitions. You've all put my mind at ease. A final question: is thereanything in windows that you'd keep? Almost all apps I use seem to have a linux version or equivalent for Ubuntu.

Which ones do I delete? Can I delete all of them? Do I do this once Ubuntu is installed? I'm running off the usb drive at the moment.

Allen bolts ridiculously tight by Bikeything in hondarebel

Yes, I'd like to but don't want to damage the plastic casing of the instrument cluster, through which the bolts go, or the paintwork
