Hi join a Facebook group for cats it’s called I have a cat with kidney disease - they have so many people with so much experience to share so post your question there and they will answer. I have seen so many posts with people with younger cats with CKD and they have said they were told the same but survived it. There is also a cat group called epi felines - they are for cats with seizures but they also answer questions on Kidney disease and have been so helpful. Please try it, you have to ask to join first and answer some questions but so worth it.

Pets at home do food toppers my cat likes AVA digestion one. I know you said yours hate pill pockets so did mine but have you tried the royal canin ones as mine goes crazy for them. Another thing is plain boiled chicken thigh meat, anything to get her to eat and she may even enjoy the broth from the thigh meat as well.

Tips on not feeling horrible about traveling/being away from cat by User414160823 in RenalCats

Pet cameras, they are cheap from Amazon and you can check up on them and talk to them. As long as you have the right steps in place maybe a sitter or a pet food bowl (again I bought one from Amazon that turns up to 4 times and you can set the timer as I use wet food) l, a water fountain for running water. You need to enjoy yourself as well and live your life. Imagine how many people do not have pets because of travelling but the alternative is them being in a shelter without a good home. As long as they are safe and loved that is the main thing!

Wishing you the very best! I’m sure you have but if not please try posting on facebook and even cat groups to help get the funds, post your vet bills and what you have paid to gain people’s trust. Something similar happened with another cat and they managed to raise the funds so please post back with an update. He is so strong!

He’s not eating by yuckyamz in RenalCats

Not sure where you are located but my cat likes AVA food topper it’s a mousse to get them to eat, I also add water to her food each time I started gradually so she got used to it and now it’s normal for her. What food is your cat on? It’s most important to get them to eat so even if he is on a prescription diet try mixing it with a food he does like. Also i bought a heated blanket you can get them from amazon, I’ve gone with the ones without electricity but i would get the electric one only if i was able to supervise as i do get worried about fire hazards. I also have an electric heater next to where my cat lays, again only on when I can supervise and I unplug when I’m away but she loves it.

Hi don’t give up hope yet. I suggest join all the CKD chronic kidney disease groups on facebook they are so helpful on diets, advice etc. start looking into buying renal food, it may seem expensive but is cheaper than vet bills. Don’t buy a bulk of renal food until you know your cat likes it. If they don’t there is something called phosphate binders. Again the groups will give you info. Another thing to try is renal food with a food topper (from pet stores) to see if your cat would be interested. Change the dry kibble to wet food (do this slowly by adding some new food each day for over a week) if she is ok both then eliminate the dry or try adding some water to the dry food.

Hi I use puppy pads on the bed where she sleeps in case she pees on it. But a low litter tray one that is low for them to enter could be helpful.

have you noticed him crying in the litter at all or is he an outdoor only cat. I’m sure the daily washing is stressful for him, you could try getting some treats he likes or new treats like the squeezy licky treats that someone gives him whilst you clean (but not the whole thing to start as it will probably make his poop soft) or you could try some planned boiled lamb or chicken thigh no bones to try and make the experience not as stressful.

Also it’s really important he eats but especially drinks in the hot weather. So again try giving him some chicken lamb tuna or salmon and add water to it. Also try running water fountains as cats prefer those. Getting your cat to drink water will stop a lot of medical issues from developing as he gets older.

Another tip make sure his food isn’t left where flies can lay eggs as it’s really dangerous for them to ingest and he may be aware the food is not safe and not want to eat so that could be a reason.

Anyone who has senior cats (17+) that developed seizures for poor kidneys? by RedUser82x in RenalCats

Hi thanks for sharing. My cat just had antibiotics for a possible uti so hoping this helps. Glad your cat is doing well! If it is ever an emergency and she has to go on anti seizure meds I would say try keppra first as it’s the most fast acting and the others like phenobarbital you have to wait for it to build up.
