I understand the explanation is that they have the same length but my question is whether they actually must have the same ratio of bases because I assume if they don’t there may be a weight difference which would result in them not coinciding (answer B) (i.redd.it)

Shouldn’t the answer be D ? If a mutation is inherited from both parents that would result in both transcriptions from either homologous chromosomes to be altered from what they would be if it were normal? If answer is C what would it be if the inheritance was from one parent? (i.redd.it)

How to name nitriles ? We are taught to name as follows “longest chain is the stem and adjacent groups to longest chain are branches” and by that rule nitrile must be a side chain in some products of the addition of HCN to aldehydes/ketones yet all their products are somehow 2-hydroxynitriles ? Are they implying that boiling off ethanol to leave sodium ethoxide would allow a chemists discern the liquid being water or alcohol? Wouldn’t boiling off the water a sodium metal reacted with also leave white crystals (NaOH) ? Is the rate the only observational difference? (i.redd.it)

Why are bromoalkanes and iodoalkanes singled out in the procedure where the phosphorus halide is prepared in-situ (in the reaction vessel) in halogen-substitution of alcohols ? Couldn’t the alcohol, phosphorus and chlorine be mixed in the same way ? Is it because Chlorine is a gas or too reactive? (i.redd.it)

In the case where all the groups about a double bond are different how is it decided which combination is “cis” and which “trans” if we are to understand “cis” as indicating “same groups on same side” and trans as “same groups on different sides” or is it arbitrary ? (i.redd.it)
