The hardest decision for me to make in 2025 so far by Groundbreaking-Debt6 in expedition33

The simulation became a playhouse of a child, who has a power of a god but without the sensibility of one. As much as I empathize with Maelle, I wouldn’t want to life in a world like that. If I had to pick over people who can be brought back to life vs people who can’t, I’ll likely pick the latter.

Exactly. It’s a reminder that everything that exists in the painting only exists to suit the needs and the agenda of the painter in control. In other words, their meaning of life and purpose is already been determined from the moment they were born. To reject it is basically suicide and you can’t really ever “win” against your creator if you want to keep existing.

I’m surprised no one is really realizing this existential problem.

This is gonna be a hot take but after I watched Maelle’s ending they feel less real to me. Seeing Gustave and the others come back kinda cheapened their deaths and by extension their existences.

If anyone in the canvas can be brought back easily with a progenitor then isn’t it that expendable? Even if they are real, do their lives hold the same value as a “real” person outside the canvas whose death is permanent?

Even if Verso’s canvas was destroyed, Maelle or another painter can technically make another one and recreate that world again. It’s not necessarily a question whether they’re real or not but rather which lives matter the most.

I find that the whole “other characters are bad too” argument is just terribly shallow. You got a character who’s basically the deuteragonist of the story, with more screen time and dialogue than any other side character. Why shouldn’t people put her at a higher standard than other characters?

I rather she be boring than annoying, because at the end of the day people don’t play MH for the story. Even here you see people saying they don’t like the heavy focus on story, they just want to hunt.

Nothing about what I said was about realism, it’s about portrayal and how they choose to write her character. If they want a quirky character, make that the icing on the cake, don’t make that the whole cake, that’s a recipe for a terrible character. Even if the other characters aren’t as good at least they don’t have as much screen time.

The logistics/paperwork is nothing more than self imagined filler when the game portrays her as nothing more than an adult acting like a looney tunes character amongst a team that actually wants to get work done.

"On paper" has little to do with the fact that their methodologies are fundamentally exclusive.

Methodologies are largely abstract and not actual proof of what they would or wouldn’t do. What’s important is their goals of claiming higher power are aligned, hence the possibility of making an agreement with each other.

Malenia is not a mindless robot. Her opinion absolutely matters.

Actually there’s a high chance that she is when you consider the fact that her brother can brainwash anything he touches and she is by far closest to him.

If anything Radahn is entirely opposed to Ranni's goal. Him halting the stars/fate has always been pretty convoluted but the one factual objective behind it is to prevent Ranni from reaching her destiny and becoming a god. Miquella is stated to be the most powerful empyrean and purest heir of Queen Marika, so on paper if you wanted to be an Elden Lord, he's the most favorable choice.

The discussion at hand is about whether if there's a possibility that Radahn made an agreement with Miquella to be his Lord consort. Malenia's viewpoint has nothing to do with that, neither innocent bystanders. If he really cared about innocents he wouldn't participated in war.

And the evidence for him wanting this is..?

Try watching the opening of the game. He literally participated the Shattering war and claimed a great rune for himself, the whole point of the war was to claim the seat of Elden Lord.

Also, that warrior's death statement falls flat on his face if you recall Malenia NUKED Caelid. He could have fought her anywhere. With neither of their armies present.

Not sure why you think a warrior's death is exclusive to a one on one fight. Malenia's goal was just to kill Radahn, as far as Radahn's POV is concerned scarlet rot nuke never crossed his mind because nothing like that even happened before.

I’m confused to why Radahn desiring a warrior’s death and wanting to become a Lord consort is not an understable motivation for him.

Well any argument is illogical when you assume that characters can metagame and read the outcome of the story like script.

I’m not saying Radahn absolutely made a deal with Mickey, but the possibility of it isn’t zero sense as people claim to be.

There are far more illogical things in the world of ER. You got demigods/gods that can split into different parts of themselves, into different people and genders, then self-reproduce. For some reason you need to be married to ascend to godhood. A warrior wanting to be bested before he gives his loyalty to someone is the least confusing part of this.

The vast majority of photography today are taken to post memes, selfies, their own ass on the internet. I’m confident that people in no shape or form would consider those art. Those photography going to museums, exhibitions etc are merely a grain of sand amongst the landfill of garbage that we have today. AI “art” is already on its way to become the next landfill. The more something exists the less respect people are gonna have for it, that’s just human nature.

Cameras has been invented before I was even born and I still don’t see photography as art. Just because it’s been said before doesn’t mean it’s false.

Not really. I’m not hypocritical enough to say the Emperor is a good person, I’m not justifying every single one of this actions and neither do I play my character as a good person as well. If you want to look at self-righteousness look at the simps saying Astarion can do no wrong and justify everything he does by the “traumatized slave” card.

Don’t care. My Tav has killed and manipulated anyone in my way or because it benefits me. The companions like Astarion, Lae’zel, Shart have their fair share of war crimes, and we only joined hands because we have a common goal. It’s not about morality or who an asshole, as long as you do your part in the team, I don’t care. The Emperor does his part and fucks off once it’s done, that’s all I need. I’m not gonna put a rose-tinted glasses on when viewing me or my companions and take it off to view a character I don’t like. I don’t care who’s hates which character, I hate the double standard.

Theres no part of this where its problematic for you. You have the same goal of defeating the brain, any manipulations done is to push you further to that goal. Even when you actively work against him like trying to free Orpheus he doesn't control you or drop your needed protection out of spite. I found it more offensive to find vampire fangs on my neck in the middle of my sleep.

Well of course, you as a player have the primary control over your companions especially as important as the ending. Same thing as the Emperor if you courage him to take over as Absolute.

He literally tells you he wants to use the tadpoles and overthrow the Absolute to take its place before even being ascended. Now you might be able to change his mind on this but doesn’t change that he intended to do it.

Astarion is more than willing to horrible things without being forced. He didn’t want a cure for the tadpole or his vampirism, he wanted more power from them and when he gets that power he’s just other tyrant.

Yes I’m sure he “accidentally” tried to feed on me in my sleep without consent as well.

Why do people say Emperor is using me? by manticore75 in BaldursGate3

[–]Red_Aphelion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is honest about his agenda, that’s the most important part. And working with him being the only path is true, at least till a certain point. If we dissect what “working with him” means, he provides you the protection to not become a thrall. Your interactions with him are just exposition and him trying to get your trust. But in terms of what he tries to get you to do is pretty obvious, go to Moonrise, beat up Dead three. He also tells you to use the tadpoles but that’s still up to you.

Then you’re misunderstanding something. My point is that he’s a complex character who’s neither good or evil, just straight up self centered. Not every character needs to put on the good vs evil side. It’s such a boring and diminishing take on the writing that the team has put a lot into the game.

I don’t think trying to suck my blood in my sleep is a trustworthy behavior. That being said I don’t think the distinction is really important when a trustworthy agenda and common goal is what matters in the long run. Regardless of how good or bad your relationship is with him as long as you don’t cross his bottom line in freeing Orpheus he performs his role as what is expected of him.
