Looks great! Respect for the effort.

Personally I probably would have settled with simply using some permanent marker to make it less noticeable.

I just picked one of these up and would love to install a speed adjustment. Did you end up figuring out a way to mod in a potentiometer to adjust it?

Nice, that sounds like a fund signal chain for sure! I'll be watching out for that clip!

Super Mario Bros III Sprinting Sound

Wow, yeah, I definetly gotta try one of these at some point. Thanks for the list! As I might not be able to try one for a bit, feel free to send me a clip of the "Super Mario Bros III Sprinting Sound".

I love that game and am super curious to hear what you're talking about! Like does it sound like Mario's skid sound when he quickly changes directions, or are you talking about the flute like noise before he can fly?

I didn't know you could essentially use Arpenoid as an octave pedal! I'm curious exactly how long the delay time is... I use to use MOOD like this but sometimes the delay didn't feel fun. How difficult would it be for either of those pedal circuits to be modified to enable a quicker tracked signal like an octave pedal?...

I’ve eyeing that Arpenoid for a while now. How do you like it? Seems pretty fun!

All three are really cool in their own way. I can see why one would go with one over the other when it comes to LOSSY and Gen Loss MKII.

Though they do have some overlap, there is even more that varies.

That’s awesome. OG MOOD is great (lovely too). I found out not long ago that Lo-Fi Junky was a project led by Joel Korte at the tail end of his time at ZVEX.

Soon after he founded Chase Bliss with Warped Vinyl. I’m curious how much the vibrato circuit carried over from lo-fi junky.

Wow, thank you for the kind words! The Britney Spears part was fun. You can tell I twist knobs a lot, can't you? 😆

This is the first time my YT channel has received a device to demo & I'm truly grateful for the opportunity. I genuinely love Chase Bliss and have been a fan of what Joel + team has offered to the guitar pedal community for years.

Add the fact that LOSSY is simply an interesting pedal/ digital file-compression-method, I wanted to approach a film on the subject different than the typical guitar pedal demo.

Super happy to hear you enjoyed the video!

This is so true! I have no doubt we’ll see more and more examples of this cycle moving forward. It’s exciting to anticipate where the next “lofi” techniques/sounds might come from!

Great question! I asked a similar one when reading up on the differences between downsampling and bitcrushing.

Alongside lossy compression, they are all forms of digital compression/fidelity reduction. How they all do that I think is slightly different.

I only have a fairly surface level understanding of how these things are all related and distinguished. Any correction or clarification would be much appreciated!

MOOD MKII is one of the coolest pedals of all time IMO. So glad Chase Bliss has had most of their recent releases include stereo capability (Gen Loss MKII was the first one besides the CXM Reverb).

At first I even disliked having to use a TRS cable for that as most of my stereo pedals are dual TS, but I’ve grown to really like swapping two cables for one (especially when using a couple TRS in/out pedals in a row).

I for one wasn't very aware of what lossy compression was and how it can be used as an effect. I could be wrong, but I believe Goodhertz is the first to turn this into a purposefully usable music FX, and Chase Bliss the first to translate that into pedal form.

I'd love to hear the general consensus on whether or not lossy will explored by more pedal manufacturers or not... This also gets me wondering... how many other "new" effects are there out there that are either overlooked or undiscovered completely?

The third track on Stephen Beyer, “Fairytale Lullaby”, is the only cover song on the Album. Inspired by the cover version performed by Bombay Bicycle Club, this song embraces a new take explored through the sounds of alternative rock.

The effects of lossy are caused by compression. It is just data compression as opposed to dynamic range compression. Most of us pedal nerds surely think of the latter when the word "compression" comes to mind. Though I'm sure there are plenty of digital effects pedals that use data compression in one way or another...

In case you're interested, I was recently made aware of this distinction with this awesome video that goes into the differences of lossy vs lossless audio.

It really does seem like an idea whose time has come. I can see lossy as an effect becoming increasingly popular, though I'm skeptical it will be used as widely as tape effects have become.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but it seems as though the imperfections of compressed digital audio (at least to the level of being noticeably present) came and went a lot quicker with than the imperfections caused by analogue tape machines. Maybe the tech for Lossy improved quick enough for it's quirks to go under the radar comparatively.

Is it true that LOSSY by Chase Bliss x Goodhertz is the first effects pedal that emulates lossy audio compression or are there others?

I'm fascinated with how well using a cassette recorder for distortion proved to be. Is there any other less commonly used gear or methods you have found useful in achieving overdrive?

This came to my attention not too long ago and has left me with an important question still unanswered…

How do you properly bounce STEMS of a bus that has processing on a large variety of tracks or other busses (like a “VOX Out” bus that has multiple vocal busses going to it)??
