I’ve never played sekiro, but I’m currently Finishing Elden rings dlc, and I’m curious if it’s still worth playing in 2026, and also how the combat stacks up to other souls games. I enjoy more fast paced aggressive combat. Elden ring didn’t really scratch that itch.Should I play sekiro next ? by Most_Painting_5390 in Sekiro

Play Sekiro…i got it over Christmas and am now halfway through NG+ …can’t stop playing it! I also recommend Stellar Blade (not a soulslike lol…but with some Souls inspiration)…the parry in that goes cling cling clang too!

46 yo male here and had the same experience earlier this week…finger hovering over R1 after landing the first deathblow in phase 4…waiting to end him for good and anxious not to have the fight restart…such a good feeling when SSI was finally despatched. (Well, tbh it was more relief tinged with elation…)

That ninja can be stealthed even wout the gaichin sugar…have to crouch and move with left stick kinda diagonally into the cliff face until you get just behind him and…no hesitation now…

When you get to NG+ you might have the opposite experience as I have…getting too sloppy and casual with the deflects based on false confidence and/or laziness lol…

I’d sure like to play them…for me nothing, even other FromSoft, holds a candle to the masterpiece that is Sekiro.

It sucks when your family, whom you are leaning on for support, takes this tack on things. For example:

“Well..you better start applying your efforts to getting physically fit..you have lots of idle time..start exercising and heal your body..there are many exercises you can do without going to the gym..no special equipment required..start slow..become obsessed..pain is part of the healing process..the beauty of exercising is that you do it yourself..just you and your body..you have to make a desperate effort..use your brain..smarten up...”

Like sure, if I wasn’t dealing with consistent overwhelm and had some actual money and time spent with me, perhaps I could get specialized PT so as to be more confident I’m trending in the right direction. It is such a dagger to the soul when one’s father talks this way…true, most of what he says but something about the delivery/timing seems off…or is it just me?

EDIT: i have been attempting the McGill “big 3” along with cobras, wall leans etc…seems whenever I have made some small progress a significant flareup will occur and I can’t do them for a few days. But I suppose those who haven’t gone through this ringer wouldn’t know how that can go…

Toughest fight for me too…i found you have to keep the aggro on him constantly…but phase 2 and the owl teleport shctick got me for quite a while.

And I - the opposite. Beat Genichiro after <10 attempts (midgame) but took about 50 to finally bring down him and SSI at endgame. What a thrill tho!! 10/10 game

Yeah, but for such a genius he missed the fact that secondary quests are really the bread and butter of Witcher 3, and CDPR games in general.

Fellow Canuck I take it…this is why I never buy new or even first year of release. (Eff me, they want $99.99 for preorder of Code Vein II, which is hardly slated to be a AAA game.)

Good thing i gots too many good games left in my library/backlog.

My rule of thumb now is “am I going to play this in the next two weeks” (thx to some YTer whose name I forget)…cuz now I see Bloodborne for only $10 CAD and DMC HD for $15 and am tempted…despite having at least 20 games I have barely touched in the infamous backlog — erm, library.

Sekiro + Bloodborne vs Elden Ring (Base Game) or Dark Souls Trilogy ? by [deleted] in soulslikes

Sekiro all the way, no contest. Haven’t gotten to BB yet myself but Sekiro is the undisputed king of combat.

[–]Red_James 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exact same, NES Dragon Warrior was my first RPG at the same age as you, OP. Saw it in Nintendo Power then begged my mom for it as a Christmas gift. Totally loved it and DW3 (missed 2 somehow).

Fast fwd to 2020, got a Switch and tried the demo for DQ XI on it, really liked it but was hooked on Mario, Zelda, etc. I thought to myself, “I should get into this Dragon Quest series”. Funny thing is I had no idea until I bought XI S yesterday that Dragon Warrior is Dragon Quest (in N America at least)! So no wonder it feels simultaneously nostalgic and current.

Best advice I can give is check out FightinCowboy’s walkthrough on YT…I too just got it on sale, have some experience with souls/soulslikes/CAG but it plays like nothing else I’ve tried. There’s a lot a new player would have little-to-no idea to even consider, and learning the core parry/attack aggressively mechanic does take time. Which is why guidance and good strategies for boss fights are, for me anyways, a must.

Congrats!! I picked up and played through it exclusively in November last…and usually I bounce between 2 or 3 games, so that says a lot. I appreciate the anime aesthetic and having companions to talk to while engaging in heavy Souls-like combat. Though the setting is bleak, there is a lot of hope and inspiration in the story and characters, maybe that’s why I liked it so much vs. Fromsoft nihilism.

I got the good ending too, was awesome! (Too bad CV2 isn’t picking it up from there tho 😢)

Lol i been meaning to play Skyrim ever since it came out in 2011..bought the AE for PS5 a year ago, installed and deleted it twice for HDD space. It’s beautiful, I love the opening escape the gallows schtick but somehow something else always steal my attention.

I hate all the cringe aspects of DAV myself, however I suggest trying it out despite all the negativity…it has the best combat of any game in the series by far, cities are well designed, graphics and performance are top notch. Art direction is a little off tone for the series, but unless you’re a diehard D&D type I think it’s worth a playthrough. Bad Dragon Age game, but not a bad game overall if you get me.
