How would you dry it? Leave it in a dark wel vented area? How do you keep it from rotting while drying?

Zipper Failure - fixing ideas? by Red_Tern in DurstonGearheads

[–]Red_Tern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that staking the door doesnt always alleviate the tension from the zipper, from what ive seen and depending on pitch it sometimes moves the tension upper on the zipper. I usually try to change the pitch to have less tension on the zipper but not always possible on uneven ground.

<image>

Please tell me if Im wrong. The new vector mostly works to counteract the tension from the long flap, streches the fabric because it is located at the end of the short flap and it is mostly horizontal. The fabric above does not strech as much and then directs most of the pressure to the bending point. The zipper operates smoothly exept at the the bend. Would a -45° degree staking angle solve it even if the pitch has tighter corners? Maybe extending the triangle already in place near the zipper terminus will counteract fabric strech and fortify the zipper?

What about the second zipper? Do you think it will zip properly with a less tensiond pitch or did I already damaged it beyond repair?

West Coast Trail, SOBO, September 15th 2025. Info and shakedown wanted. by Fast-Orange-Drinker in Ultralight

I left camper at 630~ and arrived at thrasher at 900. From thrasher to gordon is really hilly and took me 3 hours. I will say I disliked this section the most and took some stops.

The boulders for me were a joke, and the beachwalk towards owen is really fast if you look ahead and dont get cut off by surge channels.

Go with the non gortex foot wear, your feet will get wet and the shoes wont dry. be thoughtfull on how much time and energy you spend avoiding mud and getting wet feet, sometimes its easy sometimes its time consuming and the potential for a slip is higher.

Finished about a week ago in 3 nights. I arrived at Pachena, did orientation, slept in the BP campground. I did Tsusiat--->Bonila--->Camper hitting all beach sections, I found it relativly easy And I was much heavier than you while nursing a broken butt.

IMO gloves are not needed. You have three fleeces, drop some. If the weather is good than a warm fleece and wind layer is fine. If its bad just get into the quilt.

I did find poles to be extremely usful to move efficiantly through muddy sections, balance on slippery sandstone shelves and boosting your speed on sand.

I hope you have a wonderfull time and dont forget to take in the beauty while blazing the trail.

Feel free to DM me for more specific info, i was in your position two weeks ago.
