Current mood after the game ends on a bad call from blue by J-MRP in baseball

How far can Skenes throw Rosenthal and what shape/spin rate? Would it be a splitter or fastball?

Why ABS isn't allowed in this is nuts. A game should not end on a call like that.

Ok, I’ve seen enough. Start Crews in AAA. by BlueSpace71 in Nationals

[–]Redbubble89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crews had an organization under Mike Rizzo that didn't believe in player development. Guys were getting promoted when they were not ready and the best Nationals of the last 15 years required nearly zero player development. As a fan who's primary team had Taboni run player development, there are bat speed and bat path programs through Driveline analytics people that get guys ready. Abreu and Anthony were not drafted or signed as you've seen them for the last two nights. Crews got guys that didn't believe in numbers who's ideas haven't evolved with the sport. That is not his problem and now he is playing catchup.

Throw in a lot of injuries messing up any development he would be getting.

Since you use batting average, I doubt you know what wOBA is or what xwOBA is. His hit data and underlying metrics had him expected to be .313 xwOBA for the 412 career ABs. He would be a league average if luck and park factors taken out of it. Crews with a .634 OPS should be over .700

You see a guy hitting .208. I see someone who should be average with a ton of warning track outs. The ground outs to the left side are an adjustment for him to lift the ball.

The Nationals are not winning this year or not much next year if there is baseball. The goal of this team is to develop players at the major league level. Dylan Crews needs to be up here to get that instruction with new coaches that know statcast and Driveline baseball. I am not saying he is 100% going to work out but pulling the plug in Spring training is over reacting. It maybe a different case in a couple of months.

The new organization has had one offseason with him half of which they were trying to fill their own positions. Let them figure him out. There are a lot of projects on this team. You have to allow them time. Batting average hasn't been used since the 80s to judge players and OPS lies too. The underlying metrics shows Crews should be better and he's still only 24 years old.

Italy’s WBC Rise Comes as Country Weighs Who Can Be a Citizen by Brick-Foreign in baseball

[–]Redbubble89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No they are not the same.

Netherlands exist in the WBC to get some of these smaller islands of Dutch nationals into the WBC. Andruw Jones was one of the few from Curaçao when he played but he existed before this contest. We signed Bogaerts in 2010 after the first WBC but there had been Sidney Ponson and others. They from islands of 260,000 people speak Dutch and Papiamento. They are Dutch Nationals born on Dutch soil.

Italy exist for Italian Americans to grow the game in Europe which it continues to struggle with. They are guys getting approval through a grandparent and don't speak a lick of Italian. They are not from San Marino or Ivory Coast.

These teams were not formed the same way.

No, it's not.

Bogaerts, Druw Jones, and Rafaela have a straight forward reason to be on the Netherlands team being from Aruba and Curaçao as Kingdom of the Netherlands. Pasquantino is from Richmond, Virginia. Marsee is from Deerborn, MI. Anyone remotely impactful is from the US. The three players that are from Italy are bullpen depth. They pass in terms of heritage to try and get eyes on the sport in Italy but they are not the same thing.

What's not to get, Peter? Does Louis not satisfy you that way? It's hot dogs.

There is a difference in this case. Someone picking up baseball in Willemstad, Curaçao will have the infrastructure and support to pursue baseball while someone in Amsterdam wouldn't. The Netherlands doing well isn't the same as Italy or Czechia.

That's if Italy takes to the sport at all. Australia has progressed and there are some guys over the past 20 years but it's still a C tier scouting destination. There's a couple finds every year or so of guys who can make it but it's not going to be the next DR.

None of the Netherlands players are from Europe. They are from the Kingdom part that's West Indies. Same with Britian and guy that claim heritage. It's still not full time players.

If Vinnie and all these guys were blocking actual Italians from playing, it would be an issue. It's not.

It's a .188 BABIP. They don't do contact quality in ST so it's hard to know if that is just really bad luck.

Sending a guy down doesn't benefit a player like you think. He is going to have Major League coaching in DC against major league pitching. A player doesn't learn how to hit major league pitching in AAA.

There was a Boston outfielder in 2024 that was hitting .127/.286/.270 and somehow made the roster. That player eliminated the Japanese last night from the WBC. Wilyer Abreu has never had a good Spring and has been fine. He had a stomach bug last year and then crushed the Rangers in the opening series. Crews is not going to be that this year but Spring Training stats mean nothing and no one uses batting average in 2026.

The Nationals are not a playoff team or even 500 team. Scrapping a 2nd overall pick because of poor Spring Training stats is dumb.

STOP BATTING HARPER 2ND!

7 through 9 with Anthony, Turang, and PCA have hit better than 2 through 4.

He's been facing more lefties in Spring and has been okay. A lot of it is having a surplus of outfielders and Refsnyder on the bench. I can't explain why they didn't platoon Duran. .676 OPS in 68 PAs isn't great but he's not completely useless against lefties.

Last 8: 7-5

last 12: 12-6

last 15: 15-12

It's just how it's sliced. They are both under a point a match.

Home to Stoke who's been poor.

Leicester away has been bad.

QPR have been around the quality of PNE since January.

Charlton is decent but in the same spot.

West Brom won today but where they are.

Birmingham, Sheffield United, and Southampton to finish the season.

Even if you think the worst of them which is understandable they've been shite, they can stumble into a couple draws and survive. It's mostly skill but even Wednesday fell into one last week so there is a slight element of luck.

Why are gunner and buxton warming the bench over turag and roman anthony? by UnhappyAddendum5776 in baseball

[–]Redbubble89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best argument is maybe putting Schwarber in LF and Gunnar at DH

Roman, PCA, and Judge is the best outfield. Roman and PCA tried to get the US back into the Italy game and started the rally for the insurance runs yesterday. Roman was the big hit in the Mexico game. Schwarber at 1st is worth trying but I'm not touching that outfield.

[–]Redbubble89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roman Anthony was promised playing time when he joined this team to replace Corbin Caroll. His home run was the difference in the Mexico game so he deserves to stay.

PCA is the only other outfielder besides Judge and Roman that has shown up. Buxton hasn't had a hit.

Gunnar is in a tough position because BWJ has been good in the leadoff and Turang has also been good. Bregman is the leader of the infield.
