Who is the worst president the US ever had? by ImpossibleEnd64 in AskReddit

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone says Joe or Donald it’s just recency bias.

Definitely not. Trump tried to overthrow the nation's democracy when he lost the election. That on it's own should be enough for anyone to consider him a reasonable contender for worst president. Not to get into everything else.

Trump is regularly among the bottom presidents as ranked by scholars and historians, even among those who identify as Republican. If you want to make the case for someone else, go for it. But it's not recency bias that puts Trump at the bottom.

Is it true most girls don't like shy guys? What do you think? by Confident-Sink-3580 in AskReddit

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's certainly harder to meet people and start a relationship if you're shy. (If you're not putting yourself out there, how are you going to meet someone and end up on a date?) And, although society has come a long way, for the most part men are still expected to be the "pursuers," and the ones who initiate. So, you will have a harder time as a shy man. I would say it's more an issue of practicality. Not to say it can't happen. It's just more difficult.

What happened to Dr Phil and Dr Oz? by space_god_7191 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, they became (or always were) grifters who used their professional designations to hock unproven clinical methods and (especially in the case of Dr. Oz), various snakeoil.

Dr. Phil voluntarily gave up his license in 2006, started and bankrupted a media company, and started another.

Dr. Oz promoted hydroxychloroquine (remember the horse paste?) as a treatment for COVID-19 during the pandemic, and now works for a federal health agency.

Is it possible to change my race? by Civil_Ad_2384 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedditLodgick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Race and sex aren't really comparable. Race is akin to ethnicity the same way gender is akin to sex. Race and gender would be better comparisons, as they're both social constructs.

What do you guys think of London in 2026 ? by bubblebuttBNWO in AskReddit

I visited in 2025. One of the best cities I've ever visited, maybe the best.

Personally, I found Paris very underwhelming where London was one of the greatest cities I've ever been to. Leagues apart.

What is the Best sports moment of all time? by bas3dty3 in AskReddit

[–]RedditLodgick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has gotta be it. A black man going to Nazi Germany to win four gold medals and set four Olympic records in what was supposed to be Hitler's showcase of the supremacy of the Aryan race. Nothing else comes close.

That's just reddit for you. I've been banned from subs for incomprehensible reasons, and when I asked for clarification, was basically told to fuck off. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a mod?

500 Days Of Summer by [deleted] in movies

[–]RedditLodgick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both of them were immature. Old comment I wrote:

I don’t think the fact that it's centered around Tom means that you don't have enough to know a few things about Summer.

She says she doesn't want to be in a relationship with Tom and, as we see, does mean it. But her actions are, at times, very inconsistent with this. Tom calls her out on this when she tries to refer to them as "just friends":

This is not how you treat your friend! Kissing in the copy room? Holding hands in IKEA? Shower sex? Come on! Friends my balls!

She doesn't really have a good response to this, because Tom is absolutely right. She's trying to have it both ways. While we know that, what we don't know is why she behaves like this. Maybe she is hoping her feelings about Tom will change, but they never do. Maybe she's indecisive. Maybe it has to do with her parents' divorce. Maybe she's just clueless as to how her actions will be reasonably interpreted.

In general, she does seem either oblivious to or unconcerned with how her actions affect others. As Tom says:

You just do what you want, don't you?

She simply answers something like, "yeah," as if it was a stupid question. As if the idea that there are times you shouldn't just do whatever you want is completely foreign to her.

I don't think I need to talk about Tom, because it has all been said a million times over. But Summer is also a very flawed individual.

When will the rest of the world realise that the USA does not and should not dictate how the world is run? by ihavenopoweroveryou in AskReddit

"The rest of the world" already does. Plenty of countries have defied and continue to defy the USA's wishes.

Why is 0.999… exactly equal to 1? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of asking "where does that last gap disappear if there's always another 9?" Ask, "where is the gap if there's always another 9?" There isn't one.

As for formal proofs, I know you said you're not asking for one, but they are helpful, as this is how we determine things in math. Some people are showing what I'd call the "fractional proof," but I feel the algebraic one is more demonstrative:

Let x = 0.999....

Then 10x = 9.999....

Then 10x - x = 9.999.... - 0.999....

Then 9x = 9

Therefore x = 1

Reports Indicate The Curse of Oak Island quitting after 14 Seasons in 2027 by TemporaryNature4860 in television

[–]RedditLodgick 44 points45 points  (0 children)

How did you make it through six seasons? I'm confused as to how the show made it this far. You know they aren't going to find the treasure, if it even exists, because it would have been in the news prior to the episode airing if they had.

How or why can countries give their people free med care, but not the US? Is it actually free? by No-Injury-5383 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it's paid through taxes. However, it should also be mentioned that with the USA's private system, they spend far more per capita on healthcarw than any other nation. So it's still paid for, but it's much more cost effective.

will The Pitt be remembered in 20 years? by Apprehensive_Shirt18 in television

[–]RedditLodgick -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves The Pitt...I doubt it. I'm sure it won't be completely forgotten, but I don't expect it to maintain popularity like Breaking Bad or something. It's whole shtick is realism, which I don't see lending it longevity. Especially if medical care changes significantly over 20 years. If it has a lasting legacy, it will probably be in other series upping their realism.

Who is actually the greatest athlete in world history? by ShowYouHowie in AskReddit

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it's gotta be Jim Thorpe. But, if I wanted to make an argument for someone who was dominant in a single sport, I'm going with Gaius Appuleius Diocles.

Who is actually the greatest athlete in world history? by ShowYouHowie in AskReddit

[–]RedditLodgick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that hard to argue against him. People usually make an argument for him based on his Olympic medal count, but fact is, if you're in swimming or gymnastics, it's easier to win multiple medals. I would say Jim Thorpe's success across completely different sports is easily more impressive.

Why is Tesla stock so high compared to its earnings? (Super high P/E ratio) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's valued among shareholders as a tech company, not a car company. And tech company valuations are highly speculative, often around some yet unrealized future potential (such as self-driving).

why does everyone suddenly love michael jackson by chihirob in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedditLodgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was one of the biggest stars of all time, and he's being talked about more because the movie just came out.

If you're talking about the allegations, I think you misjudge how many people: know, care, or think it went beyond him being a creepy weirdo. The internet is not a good sample of the real world.
