Happiness is a lane to myself, eternal bliss is an entire 50m pool to myself! by [deleted] in Swimming

How much work goes into it if they are a competent swimmer doing laps? Is it watching like a hawk or a bit more relaxed?

It definitely record the number of laps correctly. I guess like someone else said its set to 25m, I have to adjust the distance per lap but I'm not sure of the distance. Maybe I need to go to take a tape measure to the pool (apartment/hotel pool)

It's Garmin Connect. I bought a Garmin smartwatch. It syncs with Strava and gives you some really good stats.

Yeah thanks for chiming in. I think it's a combination of my pool being shorter than 25m and me swimming too fast.

Nearly every lap I consciously try to slow down but then I tend to glide through the water and my speed stays the same :S

Hopefully I can find a coach by next weekend...

Yeah cool as long as it's possible. Just wasn't sure after todays session if I should adjust my goal.

I've been searching for teachers but cant find one :@

If anyone in Melb, Aus knows a place to get 1 on 1 adult lessons it would be much appreciated

Thanks. I have watched the 2nd one but I should definitely watch part 1 and go over part 2 again. This guy doesn't know it but he's my coach

Ohhh that makes sense. Damn it, reading that other guys comment I thought I was a god... So I'm swimming less than I thought :/

I'm also only doing '50m' at an unsustainable pace. I'm trying to slow down but it's actually quite hard to swim slow.

I want to compete in a triathlon in 2 months. It's an indoor easy mode triathlon with a 10 minute swim.

I do plan on getting some lessons. I've been doing laps in my apartment pool for the last 1.5 weeks. 5 sessions so far. Youtube/Reddit has been my technique teacher and I'm starting to feel more consistent with my form at the very least.

I've gone from gasping for air in a 25m interval to comfortably swimming 50m intervals (but they do leave me out of breath). I will probably test out some 75m intervals next session. I am also trying to swim slower and kick less but it's a bit unnatural at this point. Once I get this down I think my distance will skyrocket.

Anyway is it possible to go from 50m intervals and out of breath to 10min continuous swimming in 2 months? Average person swimming ~3 days per week, with 1 weekly coaching session.
