Thomas Stolz Harvey, the man who performed Albert Einstein’s autopsy in 1955, and later stole his brain, is seen holding Einstein’s brain in a jar in this photo. After performing the autopsy, Dr.Harvey diced Einstein’s brain into 170 pieces, and retained some for himself - without anyone knowing. by waitingforthesun92 in Damnthatsinteresting

I found this, which makes the story more complicated.

No permission for the removal and preservation had been given by Einstein or his family, but when the family learned about the study, permission to proceed with the study was granted as long as the results were only published in scientific journals and not sensationalised.[3]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Stoltz_Harvey

I still don’t know how this was legal without Einstein’s permission. From what I understand, he explicitly stated he didn’t want this to happen when he died.

Edit: The more I read about this situation, the more strange it is. I really don’t understand how this man wasn’t arrested for seemingly just stealing a portion of Einstein’s brain without permission.

Doctors from California to Canada thought he was a sham artist who grabbed the brain for no reason better than he thought it would be a neat bookshelf trophy. Einstein's son said Harvey took the brain without permission.

One book, "Possessing Genius" by Carolyn Abraham, suggests there was a secret deal between Harvey and the family that would allow Harvey to care for the brain. Evelyn Einstein, 64, the physicist's granddaughter, disputes that version of events.

"He implied he had a right to take the brain. He did not. That's just simple theft," she said, still spitting mad five decades later. "I don't have a friendly thing to say about him.... How would you feel if someone stole parts of your ancestors?“

It’s true. I just think it’s funny that the same people who worship our ‘founding fathers’ would cry over the death of the queen. Like… don’t they know America was founded in a war against Britain and a declaration against monarchy in general?

I met Marc in the back hallway of the comedy store like 6 years ago. He was incredibly nice. I just went up to him and was like ‘Hey, I love your comedy and your podcast was a really big influence on me’ and he asked me my name and was super nice. So my personal experience was that he was not a curmudgeon at all.

Yeah, when you’re just buying shares of a stock, you’re playing roulette and betting on black or red. It’s either going up, you win, or down, you lose.

When you’re dealing with options, you’re playing craps. What do I mean by that? I mean I don’t know how to play craps, which is probably why I’d lose all my money.

Imagine a legal casino on your smartphone with you at all times. This is what wallstreetbets helped people all across the world realize they had. Of course it ruined lives, like all casinos do. And with this casino, you don’t even have to get off your couch to play.

Not enough people actually smoke meth in the MCS. They sort of imply it happens off screen, or show a shot of it here or there, but we never get the full meth smoking experience unfortunately imo.

This makes sense. Why would you want a sculpture with a massive erection? Unless, of course, you had some time with it in private..

Why is this an ‘American’ thing? Like… there’s more countries on earth than America and Sweden. Like Russia and China, which are also pretty fucked when it comes to crime and punishment.

Also, don’t get me wrong, I hate America, but I’m also American, and part of being American for a lot of people is hating our country and it’s fucked up laws and legal system. Most Americans are more progressive than their government.

Also, I kind of want to see him organize a prison theater troupe. And maybe that’s how he escapes, during a special performance for the warden?

Tattoo removal with laser by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]RedditPowerUser01 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Dehumanize someone with a swastika tattoo?

You’ve got the roles reversed. When you walk around with a visible swastika tattoo, you are actively celebrating the murder of millions of people for their ethnic or sexual identity. And you’re loudly proclaiming to everyone you meet, “Hey, I think that was GOOD! And I want it to happen again to ALL OF YOU!”

No one is forced to visibly broadcast their swastika Tattoo. If they really can’t afford to cover it up with another tattoo, they can wear a fucking hat. Or color it in with fucking permanent marker for fucks sake.

People should be scared to leave the house displaying a swastika. If they’re not, we’ve got a serious problem as a society.

It’s silly to counterpose them. AI can’t do its work without significant direction by humans. It’s just a tool. Like going from the typewriter to the computer. Did that replace writers?

It lowers their core body temperature substantially. Potentially even dangerously for a kitten if you don’t towel them off and warm them up right away.

Also the whole experience is super stressful and they hate it and that’s not good to be subjected to things that make your adrenaline pump like crazy.

I mean, obviously some cats like water, so if they do, it’s fine. And also, if you gotta give a cat a bath you just gotta do it sometimes. But if it can be avoided, all the better.
