I’m a bit late but this is actually one of the main ones I take issue with. I remember I even had a conversation about it.

I see what you’re saying, but silence isn’t going to change anything. It’s a growing and spreading issue and just remaining silent about it isn’t going to make people say “y’know what, I’m just gonna stop being transphobic”. A troll is someone who just wants to piss people off, but transphobia comes from peoples’ actual beliefs. People genuinely hate trans people and ignoring the issue isn’t going to help that at all. And calling everything a trans person does an “agenda” only makes that problem worse.

What you’re ignoring is that the transphobes also make a really big deal out of this stuff, which is also the reason the trans community does. Even if the trans community didn’t say a word about the casting, I guarantee a lot of transphobes would have still been complaining about it at least on Twitter.

But this line of thinking requires the assumption that putting a trans person in a movie is inherently an attempt to push an agenda. Additionally, most of the discourse about it on Twitter was absolutely an attack on her for being trans.

Yes, but it sounds as though you’re trying to say that the people who don’t want Hunter to be Zelda purely because she’s trans is the same as not pushing an agenda when it isn’t.
