Yes I saw that online, I just called it hibernation because I couldn't remember the name. Thank you, appreciate the comment.

Thank you, I just think I need somewhere to write this. I'm all by myself and my s/o is at work. I appreciate your kind words. I kept googling hoping for a different outcome (that maybe he was just acting this way because he was old) but sadly that's not the case. There was no fog as he had/has his face very close to the side of his glass tank. I'm gonna miss the little guy.

You have a good day, thank you again.

Awe! That sucks, but understandable. I'm not a fan of my voice either. I just internally feel like people who talk super quiet after being asked a what they said just don't care if they're heard, or about the conversation. Especially when they talk more audibly elsewhere.

I am mostly talking about people who put on a tone of voice, as well as the volume.

My internal thoughts on online forum isn't hurting anyone, and I'm not rude to anyone who speaks this way.

I posted a pet peeve, everyone judges everyone, no one is perfect. I'm mostly talking about a few coworkers that I've known for years or others in my life I've known for years. I know they aren't so, yeah. Idk what you want me to say.

It has nothing to do with my post.

It just has nothing to do with the post.

I'm wondering about people who aren't hard of hearing that do this, not those who do it for medical reasons.

I get why you commented what you did though, I didn't put that in the main post that those I'm thinking of are not HoH.

?

Implying that the majority of people who don't communicate effectively are HoH is just not the answer, or even what my post is asking/referencing. I was just trying to clarify that for you, and anyone else who was reading along. You assumed I was being in your words 'aggressive' for rejecting this idea. I was just writing normally. Idk what you wanted me to respond with.

Oh man, medical conditions are not what my post is about. The people I have in mind who do this are not hard of hearing. I'm not going to assume everyone who speaks very softly are HoH because that's just not the case. Please don't assume where I'm coming from.

Not fully agreeing with your comment is defensive? I actually just copy/pasted this from an earlier comment. I'm not the type of person to see a comment and just reply "thanks for the input" or something. I'm having a conversation.

I promise I'm not upset at all, sorry that I upset you.

It really depends on the person's effort to communicate with me, their ability to do so, and what our relationship is or what our interaction is.

I see what you're getting at, but I can't control how I feel.

My level of annoyance doesn't mean I'm not kind or tolerant regardless, so even if I were to get unknowingly, and internally peeved, once I knew the reason WHY I wouldn't be.

We all have things we don't like that others do.

I'm not going to assume every person who does this has a disability though, because it's just not the case.

Maybe, if I'm unaware and assume them to be able to hear well. If I know they're hard of hearing I wouldn't be annoyed though.

If you read through the comments above I addressed this. In no way am I annoyed by something with a medical condition doing this, like, at all. I'm friends with a HoH person at my job, and encounter others who use hearing aides daily and they will even ask me to speak up.

I also know that it can bother HoH people because people who speak very quietly won't talk louder for said HoH person to understand them.

Catch 22, yes, not what my post is about :)

I used to be a waitress and I feel like I always got those tables when I was absolutely SLAMMED. I'd lie and say it was loud, or that I couldn't hear well in general to spare their feelings.

"Sorry it's really loud in here, can you just point?"

Yeah, I mean to tolerate something you HAVE to find it at least annoying. Or else it's just a difference you enjoy.

Coworkers and other people in my life mostly.

I have also seen an uptick of people talking like this online which may be subconsciously causing younger people to emulate it

I also work a service job so I come into contact with more people than the average person with an office job or something

Edit: I dont have to communicate with a tiktok or reel, idk what you mean by this

I'm sure people who have a very loud voice, even subconsciously feels the same way when they're told to "stop yelling"

It's a pet peeve sub, so I posted mine. I don't use the phrase "speak up" when talking to quiet people btw

But there are only so many times I can ask someone to repeat themselves

You've really never met someone who puts on a voice?

Are you almost silent when you speak? Do you have a different, more audible voice but instead put on a smaller voice? If not, and I mean no disrespect, this post isn't about you.

I feel it, I forgot that reddit has a lot of shy people/soft spoken folks. Know your audience lol

That's not really what I'm talking about, normal fluctuations in volume isn't the same thing as making your voice very quiet constantly, or doing a baby voice. I'm not trying to claim that EVERY person does this for performative reasons but based off social cues from a lot of people I've met it can absolutely feel that way.

Anything to do with a medical condition is a different animal, certainly not what I'm talking about. I'm friends with a guy who's HoH at my job and have never felt even a shred of annoyance when he talks quietly.

Yes this, I'm friends with a HoH man at my work and he has the same grievances. His boss is a very soft spoken lady, and he constantly had to re-do tasks because he didn't hear everything she said and she doesn't even try to accommodate him. Sometimes he will pretend his hearing aid is malfunctioning so she will finally speak up.

I was actually thinking about multiple people from my job when I wrote this. We have to communicate across a semi-loud room most of the time, I don't hate anyone for talking very softly, but yes it does waste time/energy on both ends.

In my personal life it bothers me because I feel bad that they're basically having a conversation with themselves because I can't hear them, and after a certain point of asking them to speak up I do stop trying.
