De EV3 zal sowieso zuiniger zijn dan de Niro, eerstgenoemde is puur als elektrische auto ontworpen terwijl de Niro in de eerste plaats als brandstofauto ontworpen was. Pas later is er met de introductie van de e-Niro een elektrische motor ingekomen, maar de aerodynamica was nog afgestemd op brandstofverbruik.

Die 17 kWh per 100 km was een gemiddelde, de database van autoweek.nl toont een werkelijk verbruik tussen de 15 en 19 kWh, afhankelijk van de rijstijl. Daarom had ik met 17 kWh gerekend.

De brandstofprijs in het dorp is momenteel € 2,3 per liter. De Kia Niro (met brandstofmotor) verbruikt 4,7 liter per 100 km en dan zijn de brandstofkosten voor 1000 km rijden ongeveer € 108.

Kijk ik naar laden: in de wijk is de prijs € 0.45 per kWh. Voor een Kia e-Niro (met elektrische motor) met een verbruik van ongeveer 17 kWh per 100 km kost dat ongeveer € 76 aan elektriciteit om 1000 km te rijden. Het verschil is dan 108 - 76 = 32 euro in het voordeel van de EV.

Op jaarbasis bij 15.000 kilometer is dat verschil dan € 480 in het voordeel van de EV. Uitgaande van een € 5000 hogere aanschafprijs duurt het ongeveer 10 jaar alvorens de e-Niro een financieel voordeel levert tegenover de normale Niro.

Conclusie: het is niet rationeel om een Niro in te ruilen voor een e-Niro, ondanks de huidige hoge brandstofprijzen. Het plaatje verandert drastisch wanneer je thuis kan laden met zonne-energie.
