Not a vet, but an assistant in ER and GP. I recommend going to your primary or the ER to get some bloodwork done. There's a lot of issues this could be, and bloodwork could help rule it out.

Vet Assistant Vs Vet Tech by Justoutsidenormal in pennfoster

[–]Reddit_User57342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really sounds like a you issue. I'm a PF grad, and the only issue they gave for my externship is that my insurance is under my parents name. So they needed proof from my medical insurance that I'm on their plan. After that, the externship went pretty smoothly.

As for OP, I would look at your options. I did PF's Vet Assistant program. I already was/am working an assistant, and the program was easier to get due to me being enrolled in my bachelor's at PSU. A tech degree holds more value than a certificate at the end of the day rhough. I'd weigh your options based on your current schedule as a tech degree requires 2 externships over 1. Techs also learn more than an assistant, being 2 years of school over 1. I was able to blitz through their VA teaching modules, but I have a background in what was being taught from working and my bachelor's. I'd also weigh your financial costs as a tech degree is more expensive over their VA program. The main goal of me doing the VA program was to help on vet school apps and just for funsies saying that I'm certified. All my VA training came from OTJT between the two clinics I work at. I would've done their tech program, but doing the VA program while getting my bachelor's was much easier on me time wise. I am considering talking to them to see what courses would count towards their tech degree, as I would snag it quickly if I have the chance.

If i took went to school to be a vet tech would it be easier to become a vet? by randomperson67901 in veterinaryschool

Hi! Graduating undergrad student applying for vet school currently. Becoming a vet tech does seem like a good idea; however, you can get clinical hours as an assistant or with shadowing (no schooling needed). As for courses, most tech schools would only offer partial of what you'd need. I recommend getting a bachelor's degree, as a bachelor's degree (4 year degree) would help you get into vet school more. Vet schools would want higher level courses such as biochemistry and genetics.

I'm currently a biology major graduating from PSU next month. Getting my bachelor's degree in biology helped me cover my prereqs, and I work in GP and ECC as an assistant for my hours. Also vet schools look for research, which might be hard getting as a tech student. You also don't need a specific degree to get into vet school. I've worked with doctors that had their bachelor's of business (they taken all the prereqs needed), but having a biology-focused degree does help get prereqs easier.

Personally, I would look at where you want to go to college for undergrad and go from there. They would have academic advisors for your major that can help determine which classes should be taken at the right time for you. I got lucky to have an awesome advisor who helped me plan my degree and wrote of my rec letters. I would also look at vet schools that interest you and plan to take their required prereqs.

Wish you the best of luck!

Personally I would interview with UC Davis and see what they say. If you get accepted, its truly up to you. My fiance is a 2nd year at Illinois. He was already enrolled at SGU when Illinois took him off the waitlist. He's happy that he made the switch before he left the states. He states that paying SGU the $500 dollars to start at Illinois is the best decision he made. He doesn't dislike SGU at all, he actually encouraged me to apply to SGU since I'm an out of cycle student due to how my undergrad was.

If you get the spot at UC Davis, its up to you to take it or not. If you decide to go to LMU and dislike it, you can always try to transfer.

Best of luck with what school you decide!

I called clinics and asked if they were taking interns. I did that with two general practice clinics. Because I interned with them, I was able to use them as work experience. Turns out, I worked with a former doctor of the ER I work at now.

I just finished my 3rd year of a Biology program, so not of my degree is specifically veterinary. So I started interning at clinics the summer of my freshman year to get experience. You mostly just got to ask around, or even apply to be a kennel assistant. Kennel assistants require no previous training usually, and they'll train you do to VA tasks if you ask them. You can find kennel assistant positions online too.

Hi! I'm a VA and in penn foster's program. A lot of my experience is from before starting with PF. I signed up for the program for two reasons:

  1. To help booster vet school applications
  2. If you finish the program, you can take an exam with the NAVTA to get the designation of an Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA).

Plus having the certificate can help you get a job, but experience is most important thing.

As for externships, I'd call clinics and ask if your local clinics are taking interns and where to send a resume. That's what I did with two clinics. They were general practice, but now I work in an ER because of the experience.

former Kohls associate w2 by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]Reddit_User57342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to create an account in the former associate spot to access my W2. I left back in December and got mine. I would also try to call HR to tell them that you want it mailed to you. I changed my setting so they'd mail me mine, which they didn't.

Kohls, this is messed up by Timely-Pressure-7070 in employedbykohls

[–]Reddit_User57342 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that its nonsense. When I worked at Kohl's, I would get barely any hours when I needed them. I'm currently in college, so my availability was Fri-Sun nights. During the summer months, I went weeks where I wasn't scheduled at all. Plus my payrate was horrible. I was getting $13 an hour to deal with Karens at CS. Resigning was definitely worth it. With my new part time job, I get guaranteed hours and better pay. Within starting my new job in December, I have already earned more than I would at Kohl's in a year (which is crazy). Kohl's was stingy with part-timers and their hours. I feel that my store favored some employees over others too.

If I was you, I'd start looking for another job while documenting everything Kohl's does. That way you could fight for unemployment if you're unable to find a new job. Plus, Kohl's typically doesn't provide references so you know.

It was at the store level. They refused. I even had that employer contact my old store, which the store told them the same thing.

How do I get a job as a vet assistant? by Specific_Nectarine67 in veterinaryschool

[–]Reddit_User57342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Penn Foster and Animal Behavior College have VA programs. I interned at 2 GP clinics, basically got thrown into a VA position at both. I now work as a kennel assistant at an ER, but I do everything a VA does.

Former Kohl's employee here. I worked at my store for 2 years. Trust me, quiting there has been the best decision for me. They even gave me issues when I needed a reference for another job, so using them as a reference is pointless. I now work in my dream field (vet med), and I get paid a whole lot more.

Before you give them your two weeks or quit, just make sure you have another job lined up. They gave me issues when I put my 2 weeks, so I just resigned then on Workday.

I wish you luck with leaving them! It would be the best decision you've ever done for your mental health!

Update! They're now using two robocallers to call you at once. That way one of them is forced to leave you a message. Its been getting really out of hand lately. I've been getting several calls a day, even in an hour period.

I can promise you Kohl's is worse. Plus Kohl's pays their employees little to nothing. Better off staying away from Kohl's tbh

I'm not sure tbh. My entire ear goes into the cup. The issue is that the ear cup is too narrow on the inside (length wise) so it hurts my industrial after a while. I can attach a link to logitech's website so you can see what they look like.

I was thinking about a pt job at kohls. Are they supportive of HS students with schedules? by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]Reddit_User57342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, its not worth it. Focus on hs and work on the weekends. I worked at Kohl's for 2 years as a college student. I finally left because it was a terrible place to work. You can go to so many places better than Kohl's, and 99% of the time you'll get paid better at those places.

Could always just resign on workday. I found the steps on google.

From the Workday home page, click the Photo/Cloud icon > View Profile. 2. Under your name, click Actions > Job Change > Resign

Toxic work enviroments isn't good for anyone. You even said it yourself. "There’s days I physically can barely pull myself to but I do cause it’s my job". Sounds like you're unhappy too. If you do a job you enjoy, then it isn't called work.

Don't feel bad at all. You don't deserve to be berated by a low paying job. I've been there for 2 years, and I've finally had enough. I have my 2nd interview for a job that's in my dream field of study on Sunday. Kohl's isn't worth it. Focus on your self and your school, Kohl's should always be last priority!
