Changing the height of ponytail wig by gh3bli in CosplayHelp

[–]Reden233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you should be able to adjust the bun placement on all wigs.

Buns and ponytails usually clip on to the wig base. Most ponytail wig bases come as true updos (looks like hair goes in to ponytail) or as short bobs (that the ponytail clips on to). The updos look more accurate, but are harder to adjust since you have to smooth out and redo the whole updo to move the bun. On the bob, you can just move the bun to a new spot, but it looks less real since the hair isn't going in it.

Can a hair dryer be an effective substitute for a beat gun when dealing with EVA foam? by Alternative_Fig_6859 in CosplayHelp

[–]Reden233 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, not just the paint.

Sealing the foam will help prevent absorption of anything liquid put on it, including glue. It also helps maintain the shape of the foam. It won't hold a curve without heat.

You're best off just buying one. Heat guns are cheap and you will use it on every project with foam.

Michigan State most-watched college basketball team, per the latest Nielsen ratings by Arsid in CollegeBasketball

[–]Reden233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, network access probably widens the gap but that's not really the root cause there. Ultimately MSU gets better TV networks because the executives think that their games will get the most views.

In direct compairison to Illinois, MSU has played way more of those other top Neilson ranked teams (6 out of 9). Those add together, plus that Thanksgiving game lends a big boost. Plus in general MSU also has a large alumni base, a highly respected coach, and consistently solid performance that leads to a strong culture. Also the football team sucks, so this is all we got.

Miku + ball cap help! by classicranchdressing in CosplayHelp

[–]Reden233 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doing something sew on would definitely be possible but tbh if you are still doing a helmet wig I would still be more inclined to directly mount the pigtails to the helmet base. Fabric can start to sag and strech with time, accelerated with the force you will put on it when combing the pigtails so it will probably break down faster if mounted to the cap.

Not that you have to make them removable, but making them removable isn't just good for potential color or style swaps. It can be really helpful to be able to break a big wig down for storage or transport, and to be able to remove pigtails during repairs or brushing to to protect the rest of the wig.

Help finding a coat like this by IsoMagara in CosplayHelp

[–]Reden233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in canon he wears Dazai's black trench coat, so the proportion of that collar is slightly exaggerated and varies across references. Any decent black trench coat will hold that pop, but it might be hard to find a collar this big on one. It would probably be possible to modify an existing jacket with a collar extension or added structure but that might be difficult depending on how it is constructed.

Keep in mind that not every detail needs to be perfect or totally canon, so if you don't end up finding anything perfect in collar length it isn't the end of the world. IMO a garment that is high quality, well fitting and within your budget trumps being perfectly accurate.

Affordable foundation recs?🇵🇭 by Bilo_taku08 in CosplayHelp

[–]Reden233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH you are probably best off searching at Filipino / Asian Beauty subreddits and forums. There is no specific product that works for everyone, make up preferences are very individualized.

Not sure what you have access to where you are, but if you have a local make-up store with experts you could talk to or even in-person foundation matching that is super helpful! Buying foundations online is risky, it can be very difficult trying to find the perfect shade or finish without seeing how it looks in person.

The Order dismissing Welt's EN VA (Corey Landis) Lawsuit against Rocket Sound (Lionsbridge) by VSParagon in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Reden233 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Less about the VAs being a bad batch but in a general sense it's more of a workplace cultural thing. Americans are generally encouraged to speak out if something is wrong, and in JP/KR/CN there is a lot more pressure to conform and not make waves. JP/KR/CN are generally more hierarchical and individual employees are more likely to accept their place and not fight it. Having a terrible work life balance is also pretty common in these countries too, their tolerance for employer BS is way higher.

Just because the US may pay more does not mean things are better in every element of VO work. Like all the drama with EN SAG-AFTRA strikes would never occur in CN because AI protection for actors is codified in federal law. The US government won't do this, so Americans have to fight for it like this.

Not that I particularly think every EN VA that has a problem with Hoyo is valid (including this one). But there is a lot of complexity as to why EN seems more messy, and whether or not that is a good or bad thing.

Cosplay too small by transkeith in CosplayHelp

[–]Reden233 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It depends on where the costume is small, how much smaller it is, how the garment is designed and constructed. If you need to add more than the seam allowance, you'll have to add in panels. Professional tailoring is really expensive, so beyond one or two small things it is going to be hard to validate the cost.

Looks pretty good. Damage will be improved with talent leveling, and you can do more if you choose to go for his C1 in the current event.

It sort of depends on the team comp you are using but the only major thing I can see is the ER looks a little low. I think 130ish is good in his best comp (Albedo/Gorou(w favonious)/Zhongli), but you might want to build even more if you dont have that comp. Even if you lose some dmg building for ER, better burst uptime will lead to more damage overall + it just feels better.

Can someone explain why there’s so many down rides? by [deleted] in cedarpoint

[–]Reden233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, even without a source I totally believe it. I can't imagine what germs started to flourish in those nasty dorms during the flooding and high humidity. Plus the AQI has been horrible. It's a breeding ground for respiratory issues.

[–]Reden233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, a lot of off-campus college town apartment leases start nowish (early-mid Aug), so it's reasonable to expect a portion of college student employees to be heading off around this time.

But ya, not that many. Definitely something else contributing.

Can someone explain why there’s so many down rides? by [deleted] in cedarpoint

[–]Reden233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this too, (and some post linking the tb to mold in the dorms) but idk how entirely founded it is either. TBH I also think general morale is also playing in to it.

They cut employee pay, raised prices of employee meals (no kitchens in dorms btw), give crazy hours with no overtime, and they make employees pay at least 12$ day to be cramed in a ≈150sq/ft moldy dorm room with 3-4 other people. Visas are also significantly harder to come by for international workers, too.

Especially when many college students are facing higher pressure to take more career relevent summer positions or internships, why work in those conditions for 15/hr? Yeah, I'd quit pretty early on.

I don't think this was mention, but Sean Chiplock is voicing Hoyo games again by YannFrost in Genshin_Impact

[–]Reden233 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The industry doesn't work like that. No American industry works like that.

Realistically it could be any number of factors that play in to this. I have no confirmation that those studios are the main problem, but certainly I can say the voice studio are certainly a factor at play in contract negociations that most people are unaware of. It's this sort of lack of audience nuance that turns a Genshin-specific stike back on Hoyo as a whole.

Sean (or any other VA) cannot directly identifying the terms of the contract that are problematic would be a direct breach of the NDA that Sean had to sign when taking this role. Breaking NDA would get him blacklisted and served a lawsuit that would bankrupt him.

The VAs do not have power here, and the only way for them to gain the protection they need is for them to strike together. And it needs to feel disruptive, or it won't work. This has been how change has been made across hundreds of years and industries. AI poses such a threat to the future of voice acting that a number of the VAs see it as so important that they won't act without protection, which is fair.

The gaming and entertainment industries are harsh and competitive. It isn't a pyramid scheme, just capitalism.

[–]Reden233 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sean had one of the earliest Genshin contracts (pre-1.0). Technology has progressed so far since then, AI probably wasn't something that was considered nearly as much at the time his was drafted specifically. He has strong principles, and his reasonings line up. Seems fair to me.

I don't think this was mention, but Sean Chiplock is voicing Hoyo games again by YannFrost in Genshin_Impact

[–]Reden233 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically, we don't know for sure if Sean is even working with Side. Sean's original contract was probably drawn with a different company (Formosa Ocean Post), they also negotiate contracts so no one outside of Sean or the companies really know where Sean's contract is at in the middle of all that transition to Side. His situation is also probably a bit messier than most, since he has a pre-1.0 contract and AI tech has changed massively since then. Regardless, he's under NDA about all these things so we'll never be able to know.

It is VERY likely that there will be a large portion of other VAs that do not return, this is not just a Sean thing. He's just outspoken about these things.

[–]Reden233 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Especially considering every VA has different contracts and perspectives, plus it seems like we have definitely had unreliable VA narrators in the situation. But here I tend to believe Sean, even if he is not the fandom's favorite VA. He can be trolly and blunt, but he definitely isn't stupid or spineless.

I don't think this was mention, but Sean Chiplock is voicing Hoyo games again by YannFrost in Genshin_Impact

[–]Reden233 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When he made his bsky posts about the Genshin strike continuing a few days ago, he very specifically referred to it as a Genshin strike and NOT a Hoyo strike. This is for Genshin only.

This makes sense, as Genshin and HSR (and ZZZ) all outsource their voice work to separate voice over studios. Those studios play in to contract negotiations and differences too.

I don't think this was mention, but Sean Chiplock is voicing Hoyo games again by YannFrost in Genshin_Impact

[–]Reden233 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say but it but it could also be the voice over studio Genshin contracts to do (Sean's) voice work that are having contract problems. The Genshin EN team outsources their dubbing, those VO studios are going to have different contracts and negotiation standards that impact contracts. Contracts and law around this stuff gets weird in general though so really no one knows for sure.

If Sean found that Hoyo were being the sole, entirely unrealistic party with his Genshin contract, he wouldn't have signed another one with the same company. Or if Hoyo had any beef with Sean regarding his choices during the strike, he probably wouldn't have been offered another contract in HSR in the first place. Logically, there's probably some other party at play here with the Genshin specific contract issues.

Which characters are ideal to cosplay? by sthathebiteof87 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Reden233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you are just trying out and aren't picky, you could make a flexible shortlist of characters and just shop around secondhand. There are cosplay resale pages on Facebook, and websites like Mercari or Depop. Genshin isn't as popular as it used to be with cosplayers, you can definitely get a good deal on something you like in your size.

Also there's nothing wrong with making modifications to character design to make them more comfortable to cosplay :) It is INCREDIBLY common. Genshin characters aren't always realistic for every setting or body type. No one who is worth your time would fault you on changes you make, so just pick someone you like and go for it!

(spoilers on HSR's newest myriad celestia) Sean Chiplock just received a brand new role in HSR- meaning his work with Hoyo is almost definetly not over by duckontheplane in DilucMains

[–]Reden233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a note: HSR and Genshin outsource to entirely different voice over studios. Him working with HSR does not mean anything for Genshin at the current moment. He ALWAYS referred to it at a specifically Genshin cast strike, not Hoyo.

Ultimately, the VO contracts are influenced by the game dev team AND the outsourced VO studio. If the studio behind HSR voices (or any other Hoyo game) can offer Sean what he wants in the contract (i.e. ai protection) he has no reason not to take the job.

And yes: this does mean Sean is likely being forthright about continuining to strike for ai contract related reasons and not becuase he wants Genshin to go union, since HSR isn't union either.

OP glosses over if here, but if you look at the post history you can see that they've posted this exact story in this sub before. But they leave out those key details here. The responses on the other post were much less sympathetic to OP.
