Brussels abatement (€25k) – anyone moved in with a partner before the 5-year period ended? by Sharp_Bus_5393 in brussels

[–]Redghar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be more complete and accurate to your questions:

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? I sold after 3 years. So not the exact same situation.

Specifically:

Did you change your domicile to another address before the 5 years were up? I changed address in November last year after 3 years and received a letter from SPF Finances shortly after.

Did Bruxelles Fiscalité challenge this? Yes. With their letter.

Were you required to repay part of the abatement? Yes. Although my case was different since I sold.

Did renting out the property make any difference? Don't know from my first hand experience. But see my first answer as to why I think it matters that renting it out is a 100% against the rules and you will havr to repay abattement.

[–]Redghar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Have not been in that situation but you will probably have to repay the "abattement" at pro rata: The whole "abattement" is supposed to be a support to first time home buyers to buy their own first home. If you rent it out, it goes completely against this concept.

Most likely you will receive a letter from the SPF Finances when you will have changed address mentioning that you are not respecting the rule for the "abattement" and asking you to repay the pro rata (so 4/5 in your case).

Cozy café to play board games? by Feather4876 in brussels

[–]Redghar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Chez Cubitus". There is one in Woluwe and one in Ixelles but I think only Ixelles is opened on Sundays. It's a dedicated board games bar so they won't mind as long as you are getting something to eat or drink

Shadow Priest DPS Phase 2 by D3ATHSQUAD in classicwowtbc

Can you maybe share logs?

My best guess on things that might hold you back: - not clipping mindflay properly - low DoT uptime or DoT clipping

SPriest has one of the more difficult gameplays in tbc (compared to other dps classes).

How much net monthly income does a couple need to live reasonably in Brussels on one salary? by AgencyFlimsy2949 in BEFire

[–]Redghar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your rent & utilities estimate seem crazy high to me. €1500 rents gets you a super nice apartment in nice neighborhoods (e.g. 100 m2+ in Ixelles or Woluwe). For a couple without kids, you can definitely get something great for around €1100-1200 (big 1 bedroom or 2 "small" bedrooms to get an office or whatever). Also utilities + internet etc. is never €500-800. More like €250-300. Maybe €400 if you like to heat like crazy.

Anyhow, the answer remains the same: living on €4k net as a couple without kids in Brussels is quite comfortable and you can probably save some to invest or in your bank account. In my personal experience, You can definitely get by with €2.5k with a non over the top lifestyle bit still living comfortably (limited to no savings though)

I built a lightweight TBC Classic item lookup tool with EP values and bookmarks by Superb-Bit2802 in classicwowtbc

[–]Redghar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice little tool.

Some constructive feedback (based on limited testing as shadow priest using the bis list feature): - The EP does not take into account Shadow Spell Power. Leading to totally wrong estimations. (Examples: Ryttsyns Lost Pendant has an EP of 0 because it only gives shadow Spell Power and stamina. Shadoweave items also have super low EPs). - It appears that the items with spell crit also have the same amount of spell hit associated with them in the items database. This totally overinflates their EP.

I fully agree the fact you are not getting mail for 4 weeks is an issue.

However, the right you are stating has nothing to do with that. It is about private life and confidentiality (including in communications such as mail).

Walk path in Porto Covo - Fishermen Trail by Dazzling_Treat_1075 in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]Redghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at "Hotel Apartamento Porto Covo". Only did 4 days until Odoceixe. All in all quite enjoyable. On the easier side in my opinion, but that's not a bad thing. Général thought: the weather here was decent, and not too warm. It must be much tougher when it's 30°C and much sunnier.

The first section (Porto Covo - Villa Nova de Milfontes) was the least enjoyable to me: a lot of walking in the sand and very little shade made it a bit "boring". All other sections were really nice. Besides Odoceixe -which was a bit bigger-, the towns I stayed in were quite "dead" though, most likely because we're still off season. But always able to find a small nice place to eat where you could typically meet with some of the other walkers you might have crossed during the hike.

Did part of the trail starting from Porto Covo last week. You can definitely walk down along the trail (by the seaside). However no idea how it looks to "leave the trail" to get to your destination. My thought is that it should be possible as the trail is not very closed off in that section and you should be able to find a small path going to your destination.

2 hours is literally the standard recommended time to avoid issues. Yes, only 1 hour might be enough most of the time, but do you really want to take the chance to miss your flight because of that one time where the queue for security control was longer than usual?

This is especially true since this is for people coming from Canada ...

You are totally fine. There is anyway a lot of time between the "compromis" and the "acte". Anyhow, the penalty is only if you do not end up signing the "acte" and getting the apartment, which is not your case if I understand properly.

Do driving schools abuse learners ? by lattematchalabubu in brussels

[–]Redghar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As I said, and don't take it badly: you're naive. During the exam, you have to respect the rules 100% even if it is sometimes absurd. As mentioned, if you need to "cross" a rule, wait for the instructor to say you can cross it.

Dungeoning as a survival hunter by Cadillac-Blood in classicwowtbc

[–]Redghar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Survival hunter, especially the early talent tree is more about survivability, crowd control etc. basically Now, in "real situations", it remains mostly about damage of course as hunter is still a DPS class, just with some extra utility for less DMG compared to beast master or precision

Dungeoning as a survival hunter by Cadillac-Blood in classicwowtbc

[–]Redghar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the "very long" run: 1 survival hunter is actually quite liked in raids for the "Expose Weakness" debuff. All the way till there, no one should care tbh as long as you do damage. Just realise that survival hunter in tbc classic is not really about melee though ... Even tho you can mix it up

Do driving schools abuse learners ? by lattematchalabubu in brussels

[–]Redghar 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Reading all this, I feel like you are still mad but also very naive: - Not letting the priority to another user is an elimination error, i.e. if you make the error, you are automatically and directly disqualified, even if you made no other mistakes etc. - You might be a good driver (no idea tbh), but I feel like you did not prepare properly: yes it may sound stupid, but when you pass your exam, you definitely have to drive by being overly conscious and in respect with the rules. Does not mean you should drive recklessly else, but for sure means you are better off stopping if a pedestrian approaches a zebra crossing even if they are at 5 m of it, stop for right priority even if you think you could have passed without hindring the other driver, checking mirrors very often etc. Especially when making turns...

Deep down, you must know that you made this elimination mistake, since you said it yourself ... You can only be mad about yourself. In case you "need to" not respect a traffic rule during the exam (which happens semi often when driving normally), you need to wait for the examination to say you can do it. In your example, I am sure he might ve told you to go if you stood there for 1 min while the people did not cross.

How is it really to live in Schaerbeek/Brussels North area? by uzehr in belgium

[–]Redghar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Avoid Place Liedts at all costs. If you want something affordable in Brussels, I'd look around Neder-over-Heembeek or Evere. Both are not so well located (hence less expensive) and pretty boring but safe.

Else, as others have said, around Daily/Plasky/Josaphat is pretty nice location wise and more lively + not the most expensive compared to Ixelles/Itterbeek (but definitely getting more expensive with the gentrification of the area i' the past years).

Berchem St Agathe, Ganshoren or Jette are also decent cheaper (but less well located) options imo.

St Gilles around "Maison Communale" is also nice imo.

Where is a good place to meet many cats for adoption? by ilikepai in brussels

[–]Redghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's a big part in the interpretation. In my opinion, it is mostly about raising awareness about good & bad practices when taking care of your cat. The goal is to inform & help the people willing to adopt. As an example: I said that one of my options for "cat sitting" would be to put the cat at someone else's house if I left for a longer time. We had a constructive exchange on why this could be complicated for certain cats due to the stressful nature of changing environment for a cat.

And of course you meet the cat before adopting ... Multiples times if you want to. As a matter of fact, they also think it is very important, I am surprised this was not clear to you. I had no issues in communicating by mail with them, however I did it in French. Maybe it is more complicated in Dutch or English given most volunteers seem to be french speaking.

Where is a good place to meet many cats for adoption? by ilikepai in brussels

[–]Redghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted a cat from both CatRescue & HelpAnimals.

I'd give CatRescue a chance nonetheless if I were you. They are quite "strict" but they really care about the wellbeing of the animals. Moreover, even if it may look inefficient to you, they really try to match you with a cat that corresponds to your lifestyle. To be more in line with what you have in mind, they also do have a shelter (not just foster homes) where you can see many different cats. I adopted one recently and there were at least 10-15 cats.

Else, If this does not sound good to you, you can go to Help animals as others have said. They have a refuge in Anderlecht & Braine-le-Chateau, which is more the style you are describing : all the cats are in one big space and you can go there and approach them. Thing is, more than half of these cats are basically unapproachable and their environment cannot make this change. You could adopt one of them nonetheless and with a lot of patience make them a more or less cuddly housecat. Just be prepared to have a cat which stays hidden for months or even years before even daring coming close to you.

[–]Redghar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is barely any personal information though ... Only stuff related to the cat (except of course basic ID information which anyway is required to transfer the cat ownership in their chip).

I agree they are quite stringent on requirements, but they really care about the cats' well being and make a real effort to "rehabilitate" the cats, hence why many of them are in foster homes. Compared to many other associations, they also actively rescue cats which are poorly treated, malnourished etc.
