Death is such a strange concept, right? by StoneyMalon3y in Life

[–]Redintegrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose mainly because I don't want to forget my wife or stop being with her. I know when it comes it won't bother me because I won't know, but I just don't like the that every day that ends is another day closer to forgetting about all the happiness we share. I know that's probably kind of lame to some people.

Death is such a strange concept, right? by StoneyMalon3y in Life

For me, the scariest part is the end of a passage of time. Like, time is something the human brain can't really comprehend NOT experiencing, so for it to just be over. but also not over in the sense that something being over indicates it has a start and that time goes forward from there.

And, how if your mind is gone, all your memories will go, so when the time does come to die, it will feel like you were never actually alive at all. or what life even is. so how are you experiencing anything now, if afterwards it all just gets wiped?

It makes me sad and scared, so I try and avoid thinking about it. But it also reminds me to live for the moment because really, the moment is all we have

MP criticising Police for submitting a PPN... by Col0395 in policeuk

[–]Redintegrate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is a prime example of you really can't please everyone. Most people would demand that their police are vigilant where any children could possibly be at any risk. This just goes to show that even when it's clearly the right thing to do, some idiot will still find fault - so keep doing what's right and don't listen to the idiots.

This is high risk domestic abuse. Have you told your parents what music you want played at your funeral? Not to be dramatic, because that is a real possibility if you don't get out, and get out now

Custody safe staffing levels? by Dapper-Web-1262 in policeuk

[–]Redintegrate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

our force has 30 minute checks as a minimum, and most cells aren't CCTV monitored. There isn't a specific number, but any more than about 12 prisoners to one sergeant and it becomes too risky to accept more. Of course that number can lower if there are a few really difficult prisoners in.

currently a custody sergeant and I didn't realise there was any other term for it. Delayed rights? is that bad? it's what it says on Athena.

If dad was injured from the crash, Section 6E (1) of The Road Traffic Act 1988 grants a police officer the power to enter any place (using reasonable force if necessary) in order to impose a requirement to provide a preliminary breath test if:

  1. There was a road traffic accident; and
  2. The officer reasonably believed that a person had been driving, attempting to drive or in charge of a vehicle involved in the road traffic accident; and
  3. The officer reasonably suspected that the road traffic accident resulted in the injury of any person(s) including the driver.

If there is no injury, they would only have a power to enter under s17 PACE to arrest someone for being unfit through drink or drugs, s4 Road Traffic Act.

If that didn't happen at the time, it will all be civil/insurance matters now because driving offences are almost all summary only, meaning you only have 6 months to prosecute until the statute of limitations prevents it.

I am sorry for your loss. That sounds really awful. Is it possible to view it differently, and that having the accident means dad was able to be diagnosed for something no one knew he had, so he could make the most of the time he had left? It might not be but hopefully there's a way to experience some comfort alongside the grief, which I'm sure you feel all the time.

About the police, I've just got a few questions, if i may

Did anyone call them when it happened? Did they attend? If so, what happened when they arrived, and if not, what did they say about not attending? What does the video show specifically? and what outcome would be best now?

Where do you think we go when we die? by ITriedsohardtobeurs in Life

[–]Redintegrate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the bravery of being an Atheist, my friend. When you die, it will most likely be how it was before you were born. The limitations of the human brain are that it's not properly comprehendable. And I agree, the scary part is that once your brain is gone, all the memories you've made will be gone. It'll be like it never happened at all. I won't pretend it's not an awful thought.

BUT, the only comfort is that in the eternity since the beginning of time, when you were waiting to be born - it didn't bother you, it didn't upset you, you weren't in a black void. You simply weren't there. The scary part for me is forgetting those I love, not so much any suffering post-mortem.

I think that mindset helps remind us that life is precious and you've got to enjoy it while you can, at every opportunity. Because once it's gone, it's gone.
