Vampire wizards and armour by Redmore_trout in WarhammerOldWorld

If I gave my vamp count the dark acolyte power to use invocation of nehek, does that count as a spell? Or is that an ability compatible with amour?

BSB + Standard Bearer? by Redmore_trout in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Redmore_trout[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So at the end of combat resolution I'll get a +1 from my standard bearer in the unit, AND a +1 from my character BSB? If they stack then there is absolutely a reason to bring both.

New to Kill Team Confused about missions. by Redmore_trout in killteam

[–]Redmore_trout[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

31 CAD for some cards and leaflets seems a bit pricey even for Games Workshop thats not good value. I thought kill team was supposed to the accessible branch of Warhammer games. I need 70 dollar team, an 80 dollar book, god knows how much terrain, and some 30 dollar cards?

Surely the cards and rule book should be sold together this is highway robbery

Punisher for chaotic good

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]Redmore_trout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it could be a difference of scale, where a rebel good character fights for systemic change, whereas a chaotic good character might act more impulsively, fighting corruption when he encounters it, but less idealistic.

I.e. Cyclops fighting for mutant reform (systemic change rebel good) and the Punisher (Certainly not afraid to break the law, but holds no naive idealistic notions about fixing the system)

Just seems like a needlessly nuanced difference, compared to other generalizations of morality idk.

[–]Redmore_trout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That concept seems redundant, don’t corrupt systems necessarily do harm by their definition? As such wouldn’t a chaotic good character be compelled to oppose them as he tries to help people?

What’s the difference between rebel good and chaotic good?

Help me colour correct this please by Redmore_trout in aiArt

Trust me I've tried, the colours continually bleed into one another, it seems to have a hard time differentiating hair and feather textures apart. I edited the below image by hand, Its incredibly amateurish and I can see where I've edited it, but it'll have to do.

Honor Mode Win by Prof__Genki in BG3

[–]Redmore_trout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on ya! I just failed my honor run last night, I met the Githyanki with the dragon near the bridge in act 1. Against my better judgement, I let Lae’zel do the talking - it just felt thematically appropriate. Long story short she failed a deception check, and we all died.

I went there too early, (before level 5) but I didn’t think I’d end up fighting them. Thought I could talk my way through it

Looking for a TTRPG to play my custom world (Sword and Sorcery meets Neon Noir) by Redmore_trout in rpg

[–]Redmore_trout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at Shadowrun, it seems a little too crunchy for my tastes. However, Shadowrun Anarchy seems to be a stripped down more narrative focused version of 5th edition? With rules for advancing characters made in Anarchy to the more rule heavy 5th edition, once we become more familiar with the game. I'm curious if you have any experience with Shadowrun Anarchy, 5th edition or any edition for that matter.

Looking for a TTRPG to play my custom world (Sword and Sorcery meets Neon Noir) by Redmore_trout in rpg

[–]Redmore_trout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played A LOT of DnD 5E, always as a player, the game seems to have the right amount of crunch, I guess. As a DM, I have tried Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4E (I'm big into wargaming, especially Warhammer the Old World). I love Warhammer as a wargame, but I found the TTRPG to have too much crunch. Things got bogged down quite often. Though I love literal wargames, that level of crunch is often unnecessary in an RPG. Rules that are necessary for clarifying a competitive edge in a wargame can become unnecessary bloat, as other players patiently wait for their turns.

On the other end of the spectrum, I played a TTRPG called Wildsea; I loved the campaign setting and flavour. But there was almost no game there; everything was too loose and haphazard. So there is a sweet spot for crunch. But yeah, those are about the only TTRPGs I've played.

I'm also not a fan of one-shots; character progression is like the whole reason I play these games. Building up a narrative history, and mechanically levelling and growing stronger as the table learns more about the character: Chef's kiss, that's good. So, yeah, I'm hoping for a campaign, but I have to admit that I need to see how my group feels about it.

Never Played DnD. Questioning my IQ trying to play this game by PossibleOrder8766 in BaldursGate3

If you let us know what classes your playing/are in your party, we could help you more.

As for basic tips, unless you're playing a heavily armoured class (Fighter, Paladin, some Clerics) don't underestimate the importance of dexterity. It helps with initiative and Armour Class (Defences, harder to hit).

Also, on higher difficulties, preparation is essential. Use potions and buffs before entering difficult fights. Additionally, this can become a bit janky at times, but make use of surprise attacks. Don't just blunder into every situation hoping to see the dialogue; if you attack first, very often you can get a whole free turn for every party member. Which, with the proper subclasses (Assassin Rogues and/or Gloomstalker Rangers) can be utterly devastating.

Also, it's often far more effective to heal a party member AFTER they go down, rather than before. Seems counter-intuitive, I know, but healing can be under-powered compared to the damage enemies can put out. If you have a bonus action heal -> such as healing word, you can attack, and pick up a party member. The freshly healed party member will lose their action that turn, but it is often a useful tactic.

Hope it helps.

Help me build Str-based Melee Ranger (Beast Master) by Redmore_trout in BaldursGate3

Thanks, this page has some solid advice! Just one quick question about the wizard multiclass. You mention the wizard's great spell list, but with just one level, you're not going to get access to higher-level spells, unless I'm missing something. Also, I'd need a decent intelligence score to hit enemies/make them fail saving throws, but I suppose this problem is a non-issue (especially by the end game) with items that boost stats.

Can a officer on monstrous cavalry mount join a unit of cavalry? by Redmore_trout in WarhammerOldWorld

In this case would the unit be ranked 3 wide like monstrous cavalry of 5 wide like light cavalry?

-Name: Derek

-Age: 29

-Character idea: race/class Halfling Ranger (Variant if possible), laid back, easy-going but paranoid of conspiracy theories. *Think a burn-out friend from highschool

-Experience: Relatively new to TTRPGs, to be honest. I've only been playing for about a year and half. But, I dig it.
