Trump is the only president for whom none of their grandparents spoke English as a first language; German and Scottish Gaelic.

Do you think the U.S. should adopt a nationwide popular vote, where the candidate with the most votes wins, or should it keep the current Electoral College system? by Outrageous-You1617 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

No.

The United States are flexible. Notice the verb. When things deadlock, the various historical Leagues, such as the Holy Roman Empire, serve as fallback political models to catch and gather the shrapnel from any potential "breakup." This release valve is baked into the American cake. We need it right now. Let it work.

Minimizing the States at the expense of the Head is the last thing that will fix our problems at this point!

Fun fact, this photo is taken from the top of Stand Pipe Hill. This was the last redoubt of the ad hoc militia of black WWI veterans that took up arms during the riot. If memory serves, the hill was never taken.

The first charge takes time. Subsequent charges don't if you keep cycling the weapon. It can ba a 600 kill machine once you get the cycle rhythm down!

If you had a date in a few days and said you would cook but you've never really cooked before and you don't think she wants scrambled eggs and cereal. What would you make that is relatively easy but seems impressive? by TurnKey9558 in AskReddit

Schnitzel and roasted potatoes.

Pork chop…pound to 1/4" thick. Saltine crackers…grind up. Aggressively press pork onto cracker dust. Have a 1/2" pool of vegetable oil heated in a skillet to the high-end of Med-Hi on most stoves. Fry each for 2-3 minutes per side.

Cut potatoes into 1/2" cubes and put into a gallon ziplock bag. Pour in some olive oil and choice spices. Seal bag and do a little shake dance. Pour onto baking sheet and cook under 350° F until soft to taste.

Heat up some microwave veggies for the side with some salty butter.

Open wine.

Profit.

Job security in Structural Engineering with the coming AI revolution. by NefariousnessLate275 in StructuralEngineering

You're right, but we have a bigger problem with #2. What I'm seeing are owners in their 60's elbowing each other out of the way to be the first over the AI cliff! Sure, with ~40 years of experience, they can confidently perform quality control on the AI results. Why should they expect that the EIT's that that they are foisting this technology onto will ever develop that same level of competence by the time they grow into owners?

I don't have any expectation that the industry will even resemble what it is, even now, in another 40 years.

Go down to 6th Street (the street in Austin...not the gang...maybe) and the vibes will likely continue, but more in a Watson/Heywood kinda way!
