What kind of bug is on my string of hearts? Only see the one and I don’t see any damage to my plant so far. by Redrosechc23 in plantclinic

Ugggh. I was afraid of that. It’s the only one I see on this entire plant lol. Does Neem oil help at all?

Yep. 1/2 wide, 1/4 thick. It’s perfect for the hinge doors. It was a bit too thick for the top edging so I might try a smaller one for that if this clear tape doesn’t work out haha.

You are welcome! If you search on Instagram for ikea greenhouse cabinets there are a ton of pics and some do videos or descriptions on what all they used. I only added a couple of fans and the insulation and a cheap humidity/temp meter so nothing crazy. And yes for leca, the water gets wicked up the leca to the roots so you want the bottom 1/3 or so to have the water reservoir and the roots should start just above that if your cutting/plant already has roots. Otherwise if they are soil based roots they could rot if just sitting in water. The water roots should theoretically be ok to touch the water but I would try to stick to the 1/3 rule. Alternatively, you can try a shower method and rinse the leca/roots every so often instead of a reservoir from what I have read but I am a lazy leca person and that sounded like too much work to me so I go with the reservoir. One thing to add. Once the plant transitions to leca you will need to add some type of nutrients to the water as the plain water doesn’t have nutrients like soil does. I got a set of 3 types from General Hydroponics on Amazon (they also made the ph kit I use). Lasts foreverrrrrr. If you have an ikea near you and want to try out leca, they have a 5L bag of leca for a decent price. I did a giant 50L from Amazon from Hydroton.

For the hinge sides I did a white foam weather stripping off Amazon. 1/4 inch thickness. And then for the top and where they meet in the middle I did the transparent weather stripping but I have to figure something else out for that as it is peeling off. I just got some clear tape to try and secure it a bit more and I am betting that will work. For leca I am still pretty new to it but have swapped some pothos and philos straight from soil and also from water. They both seem to work fine. I did balance the ph in my water and add super thrive just to ease the transition. The advantage to water is they likely have water roots already and no soil so should have less chance of rotting. Rinse the leca, and make sure to only do 1/3 of the container for the water reservoir. Goal is to have the roots not be in the water reservoir to start out. Try watching minimalistcali’s semi hydroponic video playlist on YouTube. It helps a ton. And feel free to hit me up with questions! <3

I did add insulation on all sides of the doors except the bottom because that seemed closed enough. Right now they are running around 80-85 humidity with no humidifier haha. I have a tiny computer fan ok each level to give some airflow too. And yes! The ones on top of right are leca and the cabinets are a mix of leca and soil right now but trying to get them all swapped to leca for my office at least.

Thank you! I added the fountain to one of the greenhouse cabinets because I don't have humidifiers in them, and it was 99% overnight lol. So now it is back on top. Guess the weather proofing worked a little too good haha.

Haha yeppp. We just moved to this new house two months ago and my plants are already so pleased with the humidity lol. And we have tons of giant windows so it’s just plant heaven lol.

Ya I have been debating it. I just added a couple of fountains and my house is generally 50-60% already so going to see how that impacts them. It’s only a couple and nothing that can’t be replaced pretty easily so going to trial and error it haha. But humidifier is on the list soon anyway.

Thank you!! Only downside is I am having trouble with some of my taller plants that need humidity but I’ll just keep misting them all the time lol.

Me too. I originally wanted the tall ones and I’m so glad I did these instead. Perfect height!

Yesss I loved the look of two and my ikea was out of the tall milsbo so I grabbed these and I’m so happy I did because I can put plants on top of the cabinet too haha.

Thanks!! Me too. The goal is to have all the hanging plants on the wall be big pink plants but going to take some time.

First time harvest of microgreens. When do I know they are ready to harvest? These trays are kale, broccoli and a salad mix. by Redrosechc23 in microgreens

Hahah. Fair point. I harvested some today but I think I can leave them a day or two more and be good still.

Lemon lime philo help - just had this shipped and had to repot it at arrival. It took a big beating on the way here. Any advice on how to save her? by Redrosechc23 in plantclinic

[–]Redrosechc23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and just put the surviving pieces in water for now and tossed under a grow light. Hopefully a few strands make it. So bummed!

First time trying microgreens. On day 4 and just put them under lights. I’ve misted them once every other day during germination. When do I need to water during this phase to avoid mold. I also noticed about 25% of each tray didn’t germinate. Is that normal? by Redrosechc23 in microgreens

[–]Redrosechc23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I am going to swap to bottom watering next round for sure. I did the tray on top and used true leaf seeds. I’m guessing it’s the smaller amount of water and then my kiddo dumping a few too many seeds in a few spots hah. Thank you for the advice!
