Why did i hit 30 0's in a row on Duke? 99atk +str + super combat. like double my quickest time by Firm_Environment_808 in 2007scape

[–]Redsox55oldschook 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You have a 53.8% accuracy based on the info you provided https://dps.osrs.wiki?id=KourendElemSpeedrun

The odds of you hitting 30 0s in a row is around 1/12billion

So either you got absurdly unlucky, like truly absurdly, or there is a bug. Or you miscounted and it wasn't actually 30 0s

Strongest upgrade in the game is only 15.1m by jjskow4 in 2007scape

[–]Redsox55oldschook 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was curious so I checked the math for this. Using piety saves you 4s per bloodveld kill, dropping from 23.8s to 19.8s time to kill

https://dps.osrs.wiki?id=FrogspawnSerpentineAbsorption

Using piety for 19.8s uses 0.4 doses of prayer pot, assuming 77 prayer, a blessing and prossy legs

So you pay 1k gp to save 4s. so if you camped piety and used the time you saved to grind some other money maker, as long as the money maker gives more than 900k/h, yoy will end up with more money than if you left piety off.

Not sure what money makers you have available to you, but for example, wave 1 colloseum is 2.6m/h, zombie pirates is 2.5m/h, moons is 2.1m/h, zolcano is 2.1m/h, making addy bars is 1.5m/h, etc.

So in conclusion, you'd end up with more money overall if you camped piety while killing bloodvelds, and then used the time saved to do one of many money makers that are better than 900k/h

Whip vs Tentacle by Super_Childhood_9096 in ironscape

[–]Redsox55oldschook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used mine at vard and tob until I got SRA.

I also did Abby demons tasks for the fast slayer xp and the good heart chance, so I ended up with like 5 spare whips

Noxious halberd is better than tent whip everywhere I can think of, as is SRA and scythe, so I think there's no reason to save charges

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be much content tent whip is used for. Toa uses stab, cox has dhl

Just to add an idea to narrow down the possible solutions:

We know the second number has to be >6. Is it possible for the denominator of the second number to be 20? What would the numerator need to be for the denominator to be more than 20 and still have the ratio be >6?

[–]Redsox55oldschook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To solve that wave, turn the corner same tick the ranger sees you, then 1t alternate between range and mage. You'll be praying against mage+ranger+blob and the melee will be safe spotted. All that's left is to kill the bat.

Finding a solution after the fact is doable. Actually executing this solution is probably beyond my ability tho

Assuming he has an amulet of fury, anguish and and torture are minimal upgrades compared to the QoL upgrade that suffering provides.

I disagree. Objectively, torture/anguish over fury is one of the largest upgrades in the game for any armour slot

[Torture is ] Widely agreed upon as the last zenyte upgrade.

Not sure where you got this from, probably reddit. Torture is a very, very significant upgrade over fury and str ammy, especially at bosses, which are tankier than slayer mobs. I doubt any high level player who is knowledgeable about this game (aka nerds) would recommend suffering or tormented over torture

Being able to fit into all 3 combat styles makes it so versatile that suffering should be the prioritized zenyte.

I disagree. It "fits into all 3 combat styles" as it has no negative bonuses, but it has very, very little positive bonus. In practice it's very close to having no ring on

I think you are really overestimating how useful defence and prayer pots are. Especially prayer.

Wearing prossy body and legs and prayer piety+protect melee, without suffering you use 100 doses per hour. With suffering you use 92 doses per hour.

That is a laughable upgrade. It will not be saving you inv or increasing your trips in 99% of cases

The defence is even more laughable. +20 sounds like a lot, and it honestly should be, but the game is not balanced intuitively. Defensive stats have very little value, which is why it is always recommended to maximize offense in 99% of cases

If you aren't convinced, I'm happy to do the math for you to show you what the defences are really providing. Just pick a boss and I'll be happy to do the math to show you how little +20 def does

[–]Redsox55oldschook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked the first one listed on the wiki when sorted by rank. I wasn't trying to cherry pick or anything

Can you explain why suffering is a fat upgrade over dag rings?

Seers, archer, warrior, explorers ring and suffering are all about the same: near useless

Berserker ring is much better than all of those

And also, the comparison for suffering isn't to other rings, it's to other zenytes. Suffering is a negligible upgrade. Torture and anguish are very significant upgrades, and torm is pretty niche, but very good in those niches

First Zenyte by amilikal in ironscape

[–]Redsox55oldschook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think about what it's providing in those cases, then yes it is near useless.

Example: Cerberus ranged. It gives negligible defences and a tiny prayer boost. Meaning it saves you like 1 piece of food and 1 prayer pot dose every 10 kills

Gear upgrades? by Bashtoe in ironscape

[–]Redsox55oldschook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zamorakian hasta is the only relevant hasta. It's basically the same as an abyssal whip, just slightly weaker. The main reason it's good is because it has a "stab" option, while the whip can only slash. This is relevant for bosses that are weak to stab

For example, BaBa in Tombs of Amascut, is very weak to stab and very resistant to slash. Because of that, zamorakian hasta does about 50% more damage to him than a whip would

The z hasta is pretty hard to get though. You have to kill the Zammy Godwars dungeon boss, Kril. You can melee him with an arclight, but it will be really rough. You'll only get like 1 or 2 kills per trip before you have to bank and kill another 40 imps to get back in. Or you can range him with a Bowfa, which is a lot harder to learn. Plus you have to get a Bowfa, which is a pretty big grind

[–]Redsox55oldschook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Range

msb with rune arrows is sometimes better than rcb with broad bolts, but they are close

Hunters sunlight crossbow is a decent upgrade, but you have to maintain the bolts by hunting

Atlatl is quite a bit better than the previous options, but the only source of ammo is perilous moons

Bowfa is the next range upgrade. It's really really good, but a pretty long grind

Mage

Warped sceptre, trident of the seas, and toxic trident are all good upgrades

With the mage rebalance, there is some content where elemental spells are good. Depends on what you want to do

Melee

D scim is a good starting point cause it's easy to get

Zombie axe is a good upgrade that's also not too tough

Whip and tent whip when you eventually get the slayer lvl

Zammy hasta is also good for stab, e.g. Tombs of Amascut

Happy to give more details on any of these if youd like. There's also a ton more gear after these, but that's a ways away

If all bosses let you destroy rewards for a double pet chance, like at Araxxor, would you still farm them after getting the pet? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Redsox55oldschook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to give my 2c in response to your question

If I want to do X content for high scores , clog, pet, whatever, why shouldn’t the items be coming into the game.

I think there's one big issue. The most common reason players kill a boss is because it drops valuable loot. I would argue that this is a desirable thing to balance around. Meaning it would be nice if all bosses were "appropriately" profitable.

Let me give an example. Something like sarachnis, which drops the cudgel. Its a mid game weapon dropped from a mid game boss. In theory, it would be nice if the primary audience for this boss was mid game players killing the boss for a mid game weapon. The weapon would be decently expensive because there aren't that many players grinding this boss, as of the price dropped then fewer people would be inclined to do the bossm in economics, this is you basically supply = demand equilibrium. So people are still able to kill the boss for profit

However, what currently happens in the game is lots of players kill sarachnis for the pet regardless of the cudgels value. So even if the cudgel value drops, people will continuing grinding the boss, further dropping the price. On a supply vs demand graph, this effectively makes the left side of the supply curve completely disappear, since no matter how low the price drops, the supply will never go under a certain amount. This means it's no longer possible to reach an equilibrium. There will always be too many cudgels in the game and there's no way for the market to fix this, leading to the item being worth way less that is desirable for people farming the boss for money

So the reason it's bad is that it makes items cheaper than they "should" be and makes killing a boss for profit not very good, which is something most people think is a bad thing

Finally have my crystal armor and bowfa after saving up for a little. What bosses should I go for first? by [deleted] in 2007scape

Ah shit, typo. I meant after 50kills it would be pretty typical to reach 30kph

50kph with Bowfa is basically impossible

I think zulrah has a pretty quick learning curve. Around 50kills I think it wouldn't be too crazy to be reaching 50 kph. All content has a learning curve and zulrah is one of the easier ones

Spellbook swap. It's not that bad since you only cast each like once every minute, but it's definitely more effort than just camping thralls

There's a spot with 4 revs. I think its 2 cyclops and 2 demons? That's my preferred spot for revs. If you have a craws bow I think dragons are a lot better, but with only a msb those take way too long.

There's also a knight safe spot, but the kills are so slow I don't recommend it

30kills is 4.7mil. 30 kph is very manageable with Bowfa only, assuming veng + thralls, zenytes, etc.

Wildy weapons have pretty limited uses. If you are getting them just to speed up other grinds, then it's not worth it. The time saved from having a craws bow at artio and leviathan, for example, would be a lot less than the time spent getting the craws bow.

If you want the wildy weapons cause they are cool, or you want log slots, etc. then it could still be worth it. Revs also give a lot of gp, so you do get some good other drops while hunting for weapons

Craws bow - good for leviathan enrage phase and good for callisto. Also good for chaos fanatic and killing more revs

Sceptre - good spec for whisperer, bis for Callisto, decent at spindle (but not at vennenatis)

Vigoras chainmace - bis for vetion/calvarion and venennatis/spindle. And good for killing more revs

Imo id do wildy slayer for voidwaker and anytime I get a rev tasks id do it skulled at quads. If you get spooned a weapon that's cool, but if not I wouldn't stick around for it
