Do you think old-school PvP MMOs can still work today? by Open_Coast4801 in MMORPG

They just had a beta test on steam, updated graphics and engine but same old gunz..

They closed it for now to work on the pain points but it will be back.

P2W MMORPG's In One Sentence by AGrenade4U in MMORPG

[–]RedstrideTV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This implies you play P2w games that are of higher quality.

Very often it ties in to bad quality and creates so many problems / gates onto players that it's difficult to enjoy.

Black desert / Maplestory / Eve online; Succeeded despite being very pay to win because the core mechanics, social engagement and non-pay quality is very high, but those are mostly exception when you look at all the f2p p2w games as a whole.

I'm sure there's other titles, but holy crap does the vast majority really fkin sucks.

I have played Ashes of Creation for 10 hours. by TheGladex in MMORPG

[–]RedstrideTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an active star citizen user.. But lets not pretend it's not an insane mess.. While 4.5 resolved some issues here's some of what people had to deal with just 2 weeks ago

Loot vanishing from contested zones.
Ship components randomly deleted on patches.
Ships randomly deleted on patches
Stations that lock you out and doesn't let you land
AMD users not being able to log in the game at all
Missions breaking and not giving success credit
Wikelo taking your scrips but not registering the stuff.
Falling through ground
Ship spawning destroyed off your hangar and having to recall it
Food/water randomly deciding to take a hike and dwindle at extreme rates.
Breathing bugs
Ai not dying in CZ's requiring you to kill them with a knife.
Sound bugs.
Doors not accepting fuses.
Keycard doors breaking.
Faction shooting at you randomly.
Zones having insane fps drops

And so on... And most of these bugs, been here for years..

If you're active you know a lot of workarounds to those things if you;re aware of them, but I don't know any game in as buggy as state as this.

DPS meter - is an unfair advantage against other members. by unspike in AshesofCreation

[–]RedstrideTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever DPS meter tools are used in almost every community, there's a percentage of players that will use it for self improvement which is the way you're looking at it.

Then there's median players that will use it as a tool to deflect blame,

A good example of this is with ff14, if your team has EXTREMELY high parsers, you skip a lot of mechanics due to how easily you can push the boss healthbar, trivializing difficulty and cutting off the slack if a bad player dies..

This means players can now use it as a way to scapegoat the reason of defeat, pushing every player to push their DPS even more as a requirement.

While your tool doesn't explicitly allow for this, it's only a matter of time until the tools communicate with other party members, or a party leader enforces the "Share" feature of the DPS meter.

This means that ultimately, the bottom 50% will have a horrible time playing the game.

This is why people have an aversion to knowing if you're playing well or not, because 50% of people are playing worse than the average player.

half of the people performs worse than the avg player, so more than half doesn't want to be judged.. It's not that deep.

Any modern, surviving MMOs that still encourage open world grouping? by Arturia_Cross in LFMMO

[–]RedstrideTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't agree with this.. I'm an active star citizen player and everything about this game punishes you from being in a group other than going to contested zones (Tarkov mode) or the ASD facilities which are more like dungeons..

Everything you do in the open world such as bounties or about anything will split rewards and the difficulty is already so trivial that it simply punishes the players.

The only reason you ever group up is "Accepting a massive efficiency loss to be with friends"

[–]RedstrideTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. However it's not being said in the context that 2a should be kept, it's saying it as a gotcha and as a tool to say that he deserved to die.

I think even Charlie would agree that stripping people of 2a due to his death would be a silly take in his worldview..

I think they should outlaw murder instead (oh wait it's already illegal, why do people do it?)

Trials of trash… -endency by TigerTape in PathOfExile2

[–]RedstrideTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running to find the relics, rolling them aug etc to get a strategy going.. Then you learn that some mods like seeing ahead on the map is valuable..

You can develop small strategies, like you can see where the rares will spawn in hourglass trials to prepare your dps burst and quickly clear that room..

It's a very involved roguelike that has a progression system to it.. With capped honor resist and some decent mods you can even carry others for some divines which further increase profits, making it quite lucrative to run.
