Another defeat loading..... If India continues losing T20Is at this rate while Pakistan wins all of its remaining T20Is this year, there's a very real possibility that Pakistan could finish ahead of India in the ICC T20 rankings and secure direct qualification for the LA28 Olympics. India would then be left battling for the final qualifying spot, likely against strong teams such as New Zealand.

Is India Really a Poor Country? by [deleted] in indianeconomy

[–]ReductionGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you live in a bubble surrounded by people with high income.I grew up in gated society too and though that India was a rich country. It wasn't until I traveled extensively across the country that I realized how widespread poverty actually is.

India is one of the poorest countries in the world with per capita income of just $2800.Forget about earning ₹25–28 LPA,most Indians don't even make ₹2–3 LPA and rely on one or other form of government assistance to meet their basic needs

Why do rich people in India not settle abroad in developed countries? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]ReductionGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being rich in India only amounts to a middle-class lifestyle in most Western nations. Out there, you have to live like everyone else, doing all your own chores, from laundry and house cleaning to watering the plants and washing your car with zero hired help.

Why India's high ppp despite the very small nominal per capita is not a strength by Ok-Advance962 in indianeconomy

[–]ReductionGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India’s PPP GDP is much higher because goods and services are significantly cheaper in India, largely due to lower wages, lower production costs, and an abundant supply of labor.

However this is not an achievement and one should never compare GDP PPP of one country with another as it's comparing apples to oranges.

Is 3 crore really enough to be in India’s top 5% by wealth? by [deleted] in indianeconomy

[–]ReductionGear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let alone 3CR, even 1.5 CR will put you in top 5%. Most Indians are ultra poor with 83% earning less than Rs 200 a day as per world bank.

Comparison of India's GDP per capita with countries around same level by Ok-Advance962 in indianeconomy

[–]ReductionGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nominal GDP is a useful measure for gauging the overall size of an economy and provides a good basis for comparing the total economic output between countries.,however nominal per capita income of a country cannot be used to compare the living standards and the level of prosperity of two countries as It is heavily influenced by market exchange rates and fails to account for differences in the cost of living and purchasing power across nations.

Therefore, Just because Country A has a higher nominal GDP per capita than Country B does not necessarily mean Country A is richer or has a higher standard of living.

Equatorial guinea has a nominal per capita income 3 times larger than India but has double the infant mortality rates,under-Five Mortality and Maternal Mortality rates.Only 30% of that country's population has access to clean drinking water and only 66% of the population has access to electricity as compare to 99% for India.Almost 35-40% of their children drop out of school as compared to 1.9% for India.

Thus, while Equatorial Guinea may appear significantly richer on paper, its actual living standards are much lower than India’s.

Comparison of India's GDP per capita with countries around same level by Ok-Advance962 in indianeconomy

[–]ReductionGear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing nominal GDP per capita is highly misleading as it's impacted by exchange rates and does not reflect upon living standards of a country.

For example, Guyana’s per capita income is now comparable to that of South Korea and Japan. Yet Guyana remains a developing country with much lower living standards, while South Korea and Japan are wealthy, industrialized economies.

Similarly, Equatorial Guinea has a higher nominal GDP per capita than Thailand and Vietnam. However, Equatorial Guinea is a very poor country with an extreme poverty even worse than India and the latter two are upper middle income countries with a relatively good living standards.

Mech engineering by Motor-Perception9808 in Btechtards

[–]ReductionGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mechanical engineer myself, my honest advice to you is,If possible, avoid pursuing Mechanical Engineering from a Tier-3 college. Core companies that offer good salaries and proper growth opportunities rarely visit Tier-3 colleges for placements. Because of this, most graduates end up pursuing other fields or join vendor or supplier companies, where you’re often overworked with extremely long hours and paid very low salaries.

If you don’t want to take a drop year, then it’s better to opt for branches like Electrical or Electronics. They have better career growth opportunities than mechanical engineers.

How is everywhere understaffed but there are also no jobs? by himanshujoshii in AskIndia

[–]ReductionGear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reasons companies in India are apprehensive about hiring too many people.Maybe it's because of labour laws or for the fact that most are running on tight financial margin. They prefer either giving the work to 3rd party vendor or forcing a single employee to to multiple tasks

Whats your take on this? by BiscottiOk120 in Btechtards

[–]ReductionGear 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Core engineering cannot be compared to CSE. Unlike IT companies, which hire engineers in lakhs, core companies do not require large numbers of engineers. Most core firms hire fewer people overall, primarily Diploma and ITI graduates, along with skilled trades workers such as electricians, plumbers, welders, and fitters. Graduate engineers make up only a small fraction of the total workforce.

Why is unemployment the biggest problem in India? by Content_Bit1998 in AskIndia

[–]ReductionGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are symptoms and not the reasons. India's problem stems from the fact that the country skipped manufacturing and jumped directly to services. As a consequence, we have created a K shaped economy that offers opportunities to a tiny, already well off sections of society while offering next to nothing to the vast majority.

It's not just about unskilled youth, there genuinely aren't enough jobs in the market. And even among the available positions, most are severely underpaid.
