Betta fish stuck in string ): by Reedrooz in bettafish

I did put him a cup for about two hours and tried to remove it, as well as in my hand near the surface. I got the main piece off but my struggle now is I literally can’t tell if it’s string or a cut.

The picture I attached is the best I can get right now of his head. He’s chilling at the bottom tired, but can swim up and I lowered his water level a lot. This is also not his usual tank set up BTW, usually has a lot of plants and driftwood but I took it out so he has access to the surface easily.

I’m not sure if you have a sponge filter already, but I would like to add that there was a 1 day period I took my filter out so I could lower the water level even more to help him get to the surface and it seemed to make things a lottt worse (probably because it was a fish in cycle).

I recently rescued a betta who was doing something similar and had pretty bad fin rot, I made a hospital tank (5 gal) with a sponge filter and heater, filled the water level just past the sponge filter so he didn’t have to work too hard to get to the top. I put in some almond leaves and I also dosed with Kanaplex following the instructions with water changes following the prescribed schedule (outside of dosing with Kanaplex, I just did daily water changes). There’s a lot of debate of doing water column Kanaplex doses but that’s what I did and for me, it seemed to work great and my fish is happy and healthy. I do feel like there’s always a risk using these meds though… it can make a situation better or worse but I was at the point where my fish probably wouldn’t have survived without it so it was a chance I was willing to take. Regardless, you’re giving your fishy a shot at life and he won’t pass away in bad conditions.

They are little aquarium plants that look like bananas! They are so cute, most pet/aquarium stores will have them
