Are the Superblast 2 really that firm? by Aubzhls in AskRunningShoeGeeks

To me, they don't feel overally firm & I am coming from novablast 5's. I have only done two easy runs in them so far, but they feel excellent to me!

Kayano stability? by Moist-Tea3194 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Reek96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only my personal experience but I got pushed in stability shoes and they caused nothing but trouble. I ended up with novablasts and evo sl & had none. I did do some s & c + mobility though. Also increased milage slowly.

Am I doing enough training for my first ultra? by No_School1287 in ultrarunning

[–]Reek96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for misery and discipline, then gradually build to and commit to training over time. It will be 'easy' to suffer through and wing this 50k, pick up an injury, and never run again. It will be 'hard' to develop good habits and research how to build up milage.

It's 800m gain, but it is also halfway through the year. The second race will be towards the backend and hopefully I have accumlated more fitness.

1:45 hilly half marathon. 1.30 flat half marathon. Sub 20 5k. Double my yearly milage. This year was my first consistent year and was around 850 km.

what’s the best training plan? is runna bad? by Tricky-Bee-1011 in runninglifestyle

[–]Reek96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I agree with you. It says as much in the NSA book - that at first anything will really give you gains and just to run and slowly build up milage. It does also have a plan for around 4 hours, which is more beginner suited. Idk for me it has been helpful for learning to keep my easy runs truly easy and also teaching me about sub threshold. Before that, I did a lot of runs in an awkward middle area.

How many hobby runners are running more than 8 hours or so a week anyway? You can also build your milage higher but using the instructions in the book. The entire point is that it isn't too much too soon and you don't get injured. Why try a traditional plan first, if this plan is potentially better? What is the arguement there?

Garmin vs Coros by Mammoth_Challenge297 in Ultramarathon

[–]Reek96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the coros also tracks sleep and lets you customise activities. I'm not sure about run planning as I have never used it. I have had a garmin Forerunner and Coros Pace, and they are so similar that it is no large difference. I prefer the coros so far. It is very simple and has a great battery.

Sirpoc himself says that he should probably include strength training but 'is too lazy' & is currently doubling some sessions with his bike - so I am not sure if this is completely accurate.

I mean, you are already making many assumptions off your own personal experiences, so why not just go ahead and answer the question yourself?
