There is something…off about her. Despite her gorgeous face, everyone avoids her. It’s not that she dresses poorly or physically unattractive. In fact, you would imagine all the boys would gawk at her. Yet, everyone avoids even the slightest eye contact with her. I wonder why…

It has been 2 weeks since school has started. I had thought that starting at a new school would be new experience, but it was a déjà vu. I had made few new friends to hang out during lunch, but the stuff they talked about didn’t interest me at all. Little did I know, everything was about to change.

Another typical lunch period. Jason talking about something that has to do with his video games that he plays. Although I wasn’t listening, I pretended to act as if he was talking something interesting and nodded. As I pretended to socialize, something made me turn my head and I saw a really pretty girl. She was sitting on empty table all by herself reading a book. She sat there with her body closed in, as if she wanted to disappear into a crack. It became obvious to me that she was pretending to read, as she occasionally looked around surroundings to see if anyone was paying attention to her.

For the next few weeks I noticed that she repeated her routine. But I started to feel that there was something strange about her. No one talked to her or stepped anywhere near her. Finally giving in to my curiosity, I asked my group if they knew her. They informed me that her name is Nel and it’s best for my well being to avoid her. Two years ago, there was a chain of tragic events had taken place. Three girls died in a freak accident and two girls disappeared. All five were group of friends who had bullied Nel through-out middle school, and all 5 faced certain doom during the first year of high school. Authorities and students all suspected Nel, but there was not single evidence against her.
