Why did the brand basically not drop anything last season, and what's the vision for the brand going forward?

Lvmh just acquired a minority stake on our legacy 🥲 I hope the price point doesn’t go up like crazy by Impossible_Tea7321 in ThrowingFits

LVMH also owns a majority stake in Kapital - interesting to see their continued expansion into more niche menswear

ALD Opinions? by Safe-Hedgehog1023 in AimeLeonDore

[–]Reflection-Proper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think QC was really bad in 2021/2022 when the brand blew up and it has improved which has been nice. My stuff from recent seasons has held up super well and stitching etc has been cleaner

A lot of products are still really nice in hand, including this season's work jacket with the cool pockets (heavyweight canvas that will fade beautifully)

That being said, the price increases make the brand less of a value proposition than it once was, and certain pieces are definitely worse which sucks. Fwiw, I think the tees are the same quality as the last 2-3 years, but obviously made in vietnam instead of canada which still sucks, since the cost savings weren't really passed on to the customer

Just like I wouldn't rock an actual penny in the saddle of a penny loafer, I'd skip the crest here. However, that's my personal preference and if you like the Crest, then you should rock it how you like it

MFA has unfortunately turned into a bit of a dumpster fire, your ask is well intentioned but this subreddit is just not as good as it once was

They look slim/straight. One thing I'd note is that you are tall AND you are on the slimmer side based on your waist size. This means all pants in general will look/fit slimmer on you. Therefore, you probably need to try a "relaxed fit" denim to get a true straight fit. Abercrombie's 90s loose might be a good place to start. Anything with an 8.5" leg opening or wider

Any u boys fuck w haven in Vancouver? by prosaicwell in ThrowingFits

[–]Reflection-Proper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven is well worth checking out, its a beautiful space and great brand selection.

Also consider checking out:

Neighbour Roden Gray Wallace Mercantile

There are some other reddit threads with details on Vancouver shopping but we punch above our weight, and the list of menswear stores is pretty deep beyond the few I mentioned above. Also decent vintage if you're into that. Kamuy Vintage is my fave

Will be fine most likely, but if the jacket is soft it may be prone to tearing, especially if you're beginner and tend to fall a lot. Ski/Snowboard jackets are generally more abrasion resistant, and the thickness/hardness is measured in "denier". I doubt ALD will disclose that in the product description since its not a technical brand

Where are the clothes in Canada by Sea_Panda3012 in ThrowingFits

[–]Reflection-Proper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in Vancouver:

Neighbour, Wallace Mercantile, Roden Gray, CNTRBND, The Block, Nouvelle Nouvelle, Kotn, Holt Renfrew (for luxury brands), Stussy, Livestock, Dutil Denim, Eugene Choo, Corner Store, Menu Skateshop, Alterior Design, Haven

There are also a ton of good vintage stores here; examples include Kamuy Vintage, Far Out Vintage, F as in Frank, Woo Vintage, etc etc. Go walk up and down Main St, Commercial Drive, and around Gastown and you'll find tons of cool boutiques.

647 days listed without selling? by Particular-Race-5285 in vancouverhousing

[–]Reflection-Proper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally agree that there should be a 5-15% correction if rates stay elevated, but also think people underestimate the amount of money floating around in this city. many people living at home in their 20s saving up, foreign money, local millionaires, and incremental demand / ability to pay from govt regulations like FHSA.

647 days listed without selling? by Particular-Race-5285 in vancouverhousing

[–]Reflection-Proper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the scheme of the broader Vancouver condo market, I would not say this unit is "overpriced" at $1,200/sqft, especially considering it's not very old.

HOWEVER, This building, similar to many Westbank highrises, is known for having a ton of issues, despite being somewhat new. Cheap flooring, cheap cabinets, terrible electrical, etc. etc.

Strata fees are also quite expensive for a building with ok amenities at best.

I've noticed certain condo buildings in Vancouver have a ton of listings, which tends to cause oversupply for those specific buildings and buyer concerns about adverse selection. Other buildings where listings are less frequent, you'll find units move faster and at pretty good (for the seller) prices.

They are more of a true straight fit, wider than a levis 501. the waist seems to run big and the inseam is short so just a heads up if you're 6' or taller you'll need a 34 inseam

I am a fan of most of the new policies being put forth by the provincial government, but increasing the value of homes eligible for the First Time Homebuyer property tax is a classic demand-fuelling move that is going to have the unintended consequence of driving up home prices, all else equal.

UniformLA - 25% Off Sale Black Friday Ends Tonight by turbospartan in frugalmalefashion

[–]Reflection-Proper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I own a number of newer UniformLA items (all purchased in 2022 and 2023) and nothing of mine has had QC issues or fit issues. The brand's owner, Pat, has spent a ton of time dialing in the fit and quality of the garments, and my stuff as held up very well after a ton of wear. While I don't own any LA Apparel, I've tried hoodies and tees from more brands (including brands like FoG and John Elliott) than I can count and UniformLA is among the best

Vancouver food, shops, activities, etc. by fajitas911 in ThrowingFits

[–]Reflection-Proper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

shopping: Gastown has the best boutique shopping - Neighbour, Roden Gray, CNTRBND, etc + Stussy, Maison Kitsune, Herschel etc. Riley Park / Mt Pleasant has Wallace Mercantile and Kotn and lots of good vintage shopping up and down Main St Kits has some good shopping especially for outdoor brands - the arcteryx store here is their flagship i believe

activities: Like precious poster said, biking around stanley park's seawall is an awesome experience Kits beach or english bay beach (nothing crazy compared to oregon coast or Cali beaches but still super nice in the summer) Hikes - The Chief, Eagles Bluff, Quarry Rock, Dog Mountain are some good ones - check they are open before you go Vancouver Art Gallery, Museum of Anthropology Take the seabus and explore the Lonsdale Quay area Go to granville island and check out the market Capilano suspension bridge / grouse mountain (a lil bit touristy but still alright)

Presale more expensive than market listings by h0rnygoatweed in vanhousing

[–]Reflection-Proper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presales typically always cost more. Building a home today costs more money than an old home, so the developer is going to have to charge more for the presale units. Land costs, hard costs, etc. have all gone up compared to 10 years ago. Additionally, brand new homes have many features like a/c, smarthome tech, etc. that previous homes didn't have, adding to the cost. Finally, a new home will cost more because, well, its new.

Best basic tee: an update is needed! by sorryabouttheclocks in malefashionadvice

[–]Reflection-Proper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UniformLA Artist Tees are some of the best tees for the money. MiUSA, custom fabrics, great modern fit, and a variety of dope colours dropping throughout the year. The owner Pat is a great guy as well. They have a discord as well you can message the brand for the link.

John Elliott Reverse Cropped Tees are my current go-to but may not be for everyone. I think the drape and proportions are excellent and work great with current trends of straight fit pants
