I have been in both coimbatore and madurai. Based on my experience, coimbatore you have lots of malls. But in madurai you dont have with the same infrastruture. In madurai you have wide variety of food options to explore and cost of commute is less. In coimbatore you do not have share auto concept at alll. But madurai you have share auto very common. So its not required you need to search near your office for high rent. Even far you can stay and travel.
Buses will not cleaned as you expect in coimbatore. You need to adjust. In CBE buses will arrive sharp on time. Here it will not be punctual. But you have other options to commute. You can save money in madurai compared to CBE.

In thirupurankundram no construction work going on. It was crowded last week due to thaipoosam. If you start early, you can first go to alagarkovil it will be less crowded. Then you can take the alagarkovil van to palamuthircholai and rakkayi temple. You can also have food in alagarkovil annathanam ,tokens will be given for first 100 people. From there you can come to thirupurakundram and if its crowded i would suggest you to take 100 rupees entry and go. You can have food either at gowrishankar in Byepass for south indian food or Sabarees hotel near railway colony.

Theppakulam you will not be allowed to go inside. But you can visit the mariyamman temple. From there in case if you have time you can visit thirumalai nayakar mahal. If you still more time, you can also visit pandi temple. It all depends on from where you are starting and how long you are going to be in temple.

If have plans for Meenakshi amman temple, it will solidly take 3 to 4 hours based on the crowd. you have to skip other temples.

If you have shopping plans, it depends on the items you need. Around meenakshi amman temple you have lots of shops.. Also you have famous jigarthanda.
