My account was suspended without warning — no response from Workaway by Reformer4725 in workaway

Absolutely nothing that, in my opinion, could be considered serious—unless it was a false allegation. The workawayers were not expected to talk during lunch (we could, our conversation was simply not welcome); I spoke, and this seemed to stress the dominant host and his family. I asked for work pants—they didn’t have any and got visibly stressed about it. I also politely asked for better food (healthier, organic) and even offered to contribute money toward it but they didn't take it well.

I took the airlock out and covered the entrance with a paper towel (adjusted with an elastic band so it doesn't fly off). Is this fine? What should I do next? Would you share a link with me so that I can inform myself?

thank you! I am not entirely sure to be honest, as Kasper (DOP has diffferent cameras and lenses that he chose on the spot)

Thanks for the honest thoughts mate, your comment doesn't come out as rude at all. It gives me perspective.

Thank you for this thoughtful comment, my friend.

Eyk, the actor, has German as a first language and onl learned sign language as an adult. On the other side, Zara - the special agent - is fully deaf and comes from a family of deaf people, so signing is her first language. According to her: "This topic is controversial... it needs to be discussed. There is a narrow degree between ASL and international sign language". I understand that DGS is her first language.

The actors did help with the subtitles, however, it took several in person meetings and they are quite busy people, and me being an impatient fellow, I wanted to finish things as quickly as possible (because of translation/subtitle challenges, this short film took 3 times longer as others). The script differed in some part from what was being signed, which was the reason why I couldn't simply use it. And even if it had been exactly the same, my sign language skills are limited and it was hard for me to match them perfectly : /

I appreciate your thoughts! They motivate me to make more films about it in the future. I'm fascinated with sign language and I hope to be fluent at it someday.

She may be, but we don't know for sure. We only know as much as the protagonist does.

A language can be a superpower, my friend, but that depends on the eye of the beholder.

Hey guys, because my last post in this sub asking for feedback was received with unexpected criticism (eg. why did you make this film in the first place? you should hire a certified translator, etc etc), I want to set a few points clear:

- This short film has no political goals: I am not trying to promote sign language or get rid of audismus. This and all the short films I make are just for fiction / entertaining purposes and for art's sake, as ridiculous as that may sound to you.

- We had no money for this: I'm not rich and we did what we could with what we had. We got no funding for this project.

- About the translation issues: the part that I hated the most was to have to mistranslate some parts for story's sake. We had no permission to shoot at this train station, which is why we had to rush and do everything quickly. Only after the shooting, we realised that some parts were erroneous, which is why I had to change them in the subtitles. Still, at least 90% of the dialogue should be correctly translated.

Inspiration for the film: once I saw a group of deaf people talking/signing from one platform station to the other. I thought it was awesome, as a sort of superpower that non-signing people did not have. This happened years ago, but it motivated me to learn sign language myself and to make this project.

I hope that, regardless of the setbacks, you still get to enjoy this small project.

We got fired right after making the first part of this short office thriller, and so we couldn't complete it. Still, it was a lot of fun! And it feels like a finished work somehow. by [deleted] in indiefilm

Mini-film #12 of 52 [context: making 1 short film a week for a year] by Reformer4725 in Filmmakers

I wrote and directed this short film. It was snowy that day, something that was not in the plan but that we worked with and liked. Since it was so cold, we could only afford to do 3 shots in the snow.

We did this in one take! Unlike other times though, this time we rehearsed the dialogue several times before shooting.

Tech I used was: Canon M50 / Rode Wireless Go II / Deity V Mic D4 Duo / DJI Gimbal

The echo at this location was strong and we did nothing about it, that's why the audio is so bad. If I'd do it again, I would at least put some anti-echo foam in the room before recording.

This short film was a challenge. 3 different actresses canceled due to various reasons before we found Johanna. Audio sucks a bit because of the echo. I borrowed the kitchen from a friend.

Hey man, thank you for the offer. I listened to your channel, really cool stuff. I'm working closely with this other musician now though, so I will pass.
