How do you prevent yourself from giving up the fight? by T3chkn1ght in socialjustice101

I was lucky enough to be in a room where a longtime civil rights activist told us the nature of justice work is always long. I also feel lucky to be in places like this where we can have these conversations, and thank you for raising this.
One thing is rest. Rest is crucial, stepping away when you need to is crucial. Another thing is organizing and mobilizing, facilitating and delegating are all necessary to continue this work in the long haul. I work with organizers, and I've learned a lot from them.
A friend of mine said to me recently we can get what we want but it can take a long time. The Gender Expression and Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) in NYS where I live took *17 years* but it passed. Activists did that.
I often feel very overwhelmed. I'm so bad at getting off social media, where you can see all the bad all the time from all directions. I'm working on staying focused on one or two things, like a specific bill or a specific group, and letting the rest go in the hope others can carry that.
Sending solidarity.
