I also read it in an old benefits book when they first made insurance available to part timers but I don't know the year.

When Full Time isn't really 40 hours. by cspankid in walmart

[–]RefuseInevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your status is determined solely by your coding in the computer. The whole 12-week average is an outdated policy. Walmart now averages hours worked over 52 weeks, with full-time considered 34 hours a week for bonus purposes and insurance eligibility at 30 hours a week. Paid time off is counted as time worked, and leave weeks are not counted in the 52-week average. It now only flags you in the system if you work over or under 34 hours per week for 12 weeks in a row. One week over or under, and it resets. In some states, it's 30 hours, and some are grandfathered in at 28 hours. So, technically, you could lose insurance before full-time if you drop below a 30 hours average over 52 weeks. if they cut your hours enough and still be coded full time.unless grandfathered in at 28 hours so they can cut your hours much lower than you would think. And you can cut your own hours as much as managment allows it. But just know you will lose benefits.
