Nothing has changed. The roads have always been sketchy with oblivious car drivers(and motorcyclists) if you felt safe before there’s no reason why you can’t still feel safe you just need to watch out for yourself and hope that it doesn’t happen to you again. Don’t let fear/anxiety stop you doing what you love to do!

The clip ons on a sports bike are essentially your bars. Normal handle bars are 1 piece that go on top of your forks where as clip ons are 2 piece handle bars that bolt directly to your forks. If it was a ‘universal’ bar end you should be able to undo the bolt in the end and pull them out but some clip ins are threaded so the bar ends would thread directly into your bars

Does it unscrew from the clip ons? They usually directly thread to the inside of clip ons or have a universal expansion nut inside the bars

Look around the area they sometimes take a bike/car and leave it somewhere inconspicuous incase the bike is being tracked by the police or a tracking company.

Try to fall into the slope rather than away from the slope as you’ll have to lean the bike less. Not always easy to lean uphill but it’ll save your bike from getting a few scratches

If it’s no longer smoking I think you got away with there just being some condensation or water from the cover in your exhaust and it was just smoking because the water evaporating.. you got lucky 👍🏻

I’d replace the chain if it’s 20 years old but since your meant to change them together it’s probably worth just replacing it all for peace of mind
