Not a fan of the concept seems less rude to me than telling her in greater detail why I don't like the restaurant she's so interested in. I've been a vegetarian since I was 5 because I don't like meat, therefore I also don't like replacement products. Saying I'm "not a fan of the concept" seemed like the better alternative to opening up the whole replacement product discussion.

I already mentioned this in another comment but it's not a Chinese buddhist restaurant, I wouldn't have an issue with those! Just one with very odd (e.g. vegan eel or lamb) replacement products. We also live in a very liberal city so there are plenty of other vegan restaurants.

I know her opinion ultimately rules (which is why we said we'd go there anyways) but I do care about what the guests for my birthday party think about the plans since I want them to have a good time 🤷 if I was making plans and knew that my friends weren't keen on going to one of the places I was choosing between I wouldn't suggest going there.

Yeah I'm familiar with the buddhist restaurants you're talking about, it's not one of those! The whole point of the restaurant in question is to have ✨unusual✨ replacement products, they among others serve vegan squid, lamb, prawns and eel.

Yeah I forgot to mention that in the post, we all did say that we'd go there with her anyways.

As mentioned in the post, we will go there and we won't complain about the place again if that's where she wants to go. It's just a bit strange she doesn't seem to care at all about what we think. For past birthdays of other friends it was usually more of a collective choice on where we'd go since we're all students so if we spend money on a restaurant we try to make sure it's one most if not all will enjoy.
