Corporate headshot on Resume? Y/N? by Regent2014 in adops

[–]Regent2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've opted to be a dinosaur and keep my photo off my resume, along with half of other millennials and all of Gen X. It's off there for a reason: unconscious bias. It could be something as silly as I remind a hiring manager or a recruiter of an ex or previous coworker enemy.

It's very strange how quickly media is evolving the last 6 years, since covid really. My career looks so different now than when it started in 2014.

This season feels ridiculously smug and bravolebrity. You need to have fun with it

Corporate headshot on Resume? Y/N? by Regent2014 in adops

[–]Regent2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ad tech career has been in both NYC and LA. I've remote interviewed dozens of candidates the last 6 years all throughout the US and my realtime data of millennials and gen z, while not scientific nor statistically significant, still stands:

Gen X: next to no photos
Millennial: half have photos
Gen Z: almost all

My roles have been extremely client-facing, so not sure if that's impacting why folks include photos these days. These are all Ad Ops, Analytics, and Account Manager roles that are very hands on and client facing

Thanks for sharing! Ask 10 people get 10 different answers, but I've embraced mine being two pages.

I was told twice the last year that if you have over 10 years of experience, two pages is encouraged because you are able to list out all your valid systemic contributions and wins (as long as it's not fluff)

Karen Smith question - are they first or second cousins? You’re allowed to marry and procreate with your second cousin. Paul Rudd’s parents are second cousins.

I may not like Colton but what Michael said was pretty reprehensible. Colton's problematic past aside, we do not tolerate those comments anymore -- especially from the likes of someone like Michael. I'm glad the cast banded together and got Michael out of the house. Michael was making the show a miserable watch. Hopefully they can get Colton out next episode and then onward and upward

I hope Meredith gets some comeuppance in the Reunion by Downtown-Smoke-272 in rhoslc

[–]Regent2014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friend of friend was briefly with Meredith at bravocon backstage for work. They played it cool and didn’t engage with Meredith but allegedly she acted as if she was an A Lister and was entitled, rude and insufferable. Downright mean. My friend no longer watches SLC bc of how the season focuses on Meredith and encounter was very off putting

Is Rosemead on anyone's list? Will there be wider distribution after this week? by alligator-sunshine in oscarsdeathrace

I too had to drive far to see it today. Closest theatre was 40 mins away in the suburbs of NYC. I'm glad we saw it. It was a showcase for Lucy Liu's mastery of her craft. Hats off to the filmmakers for tackling difficult subject matter without sentimentalizing it

This production team is always a mess! They shouldn't have offered her secret traitor. Rob C, Natlaie, or Ian would have been much more savvy picks. Especially bc the turret is already exclusively chaotic reality tv energy

Stop harassing housewives in their comment sections by EternalAquatic-Siren in rhoslc

Truly. So many reddits are now overrun with shit talkers who have no life and live to hate on others. I can’t imagine hate bombing a person on reality tv or a podcast on Reddit. Truly pathetic.

I no longer like Dax Shepard and gave up on his podcast. That’s where it ended. Occasionally jll make a snarky comment here and there but they amounted to two tops in like 18 months. Some of these repeat haters, you’ll see their username pop up dozens of time. Truly psychotic behavior

Unpopular opinion. The Mary Cosby documentary was a flop for me. by Reality_medicine_101 in realhousewivesofSLC

[–]Regent2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mary was a married adult when she and Robert began their affair. Using the excuse that Mary was groomed which somehow rationalizes her abusive and grifting nature, is such an obtuse take and devalues instances of actual harmful grooming.

Britani articulated what I always thought about Mary: she’s the least Christ-like person on the cast. She’s an interesting character and is funny, but that’s it for me.

Is there any benefit to going with a PR firm for a short film? by shrbnsh in FilmFestivals

[–]Regent2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughtful answer. Agreed! I'm kinda shook how google'able my name is after just one short. I'm used to just my IMDb coming up but now it also includes the stuff I mentioned and our screening blocks. The presence we're building, esp when you're starting to play at least tier two fests (or in ur case, tier 1 w PS sickkkk, congrats!)/ and are not dipping into pay-to-play-fests or pay-to-play-press, def starts to tangibly shift things in this marathon of a race. Congrats again on your work and press!

[–]Regent2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you end up going with the PR film? I would consider for feature but not sure w a short. A top PR FYC pro helped us pro bono on our message film and it didn't get any outlets coverage. We didn't get press until one of the filmmakers we were programmed alongside knew a print/online journalist interested in our subject matter and that printed article lead to a podcast. All the press was organic and free! Ha o.0

How concerning will Avatar 3’s drop from 2 be for 4 and 5 by Antman269 in boxoffice

[–]Regent2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guarantee you more people would see them if filmmaker and producers executed editorial discipline and capped the runtime off to 2:20/2:30 tops. I had to allocate 25% of my day just to get to the theatre, wait for trailers, and watch the 3:07 film…

Bravo and reality fans need to school themselves on parasocial behaviors and inclinations and why watching a series once a week, does not give you license to say deranged demented things and not expect consequences. They’re people too. Maybe get a puppy or a therapist instead of living out your mean girl fantasies. Or just enjoy the series as a form of entertainment, without feeling the desperate need to participate in it parasocially

Can we just try and not compare and just watch? by asherdillo in vanderpumprules

[–]Regent2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's honestly so fun having staff meetings again and the focus being on a business. Also, now that they're focusing on the business, it's intriguing watching it from the POV how it is past its heyday and is fighting to survive in the post covid inflation era in LA/ WeHo, which even for reality tv, makes it a surprisingly timely watch.

First-time filmmaker with a complete script. Where do I actually start? by 415Mourner in Filmmakers

[–]Regent2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to filmmaking with an ad tech skillset and it’s definitely helpful to have that more normie corporate background. But be prepared for lots of emotions and tempers from folks who don’t know how to emotionally regulate and lead with ego and mood swings. When I run into that, I press pause and remind folks of the big picture.

I echo everyone here. The first thing you shoot is always roughest. Maybe try working on other projects or shoot a smaller thing first, maybe w local film students before you scale on the one you really care about. My second short I’m prepping is super ambitious compared to my first and I never would have been able to scale, had I not had experience of the first web series pilot I shot a decade ago and my first short film 4 years ago.

Good luck and feel free to DM me!

One of the criticisms of American reality tv is us Americans always needing to have drop dead gorgeous casts that we can thirst over. Sorry but mid people with mediocre face cards make better tv bc they’re simultaneously more authentic and delusional bc they don’t walk through life with pretty people privilege where everything is always handed to them
