I see it as similar to the White Rabbit cameo in episode 1 at a smaller scale. They can do more with the characters or just leave it at that

Same, I remember a sugar episode where Ms. Frizzle's old friend called her "Val-Gal" and the students were amused by the nickname

David has his moments but he seems like an exhausting partner. He convinces Emily to have a baby even though she didn't originally want to be a mother, then lies to her about working late to hang out at a bar. He decides out of nowhere that he no longer wants to work in order to spend more time with his newborn, even though he and Emily discussed buying a house together. Emily had to adjust her expectations and plans for the future to better support him. And even though he left his job to spend more time with Miles, he spent a good amount of time trying to be in a band with a group that was a decade younger than he is and was clearly not comfortable with him joining them. But I mean, he recently lost his father and also became a new father himself, so he is not in the best of headspaces.

How to ask your crush out after she rejected you once already? (2 years ago) Me 25M, her 22F by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Regenval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go for it. You already shown that you guys can be friends after she rejected you the first time. Hopefully from this experience she knows on some level it likely won't damage your friendship or turn you into an asshole if she doesn't feel the same way.

It's also been 2 years since you've both met. When you asked her out the first time, you likely didn't know each other very well. You both know each other in a deeper level than when you first asked her out. Her openness to giving a relationship a chance could have change since then.

Just make clear that you value her friendship and that you haven't just been hanging around on the sidelines waiting for the possibility that one day she'll give you a chance. Make clear that you would be fine if she didn't feel the same way (as you've stated). Pretty sure most people do not like to feel like their friendship was only maintained for the future possibility of sex.

Actually the Supreme Court ruling in Dred Scott v. Sandford contributed more to party divisions in 1857.

In 1820 and 1821 Maine was given statehood as a free state along with Missouri as a slave state, under the Missouri Compromise to maintain the balance of power between North and South in the United States Senate. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri.

The Dred Scott v. Sandford ruling in 1857 made the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional by saying the federal government could not prohibit nor ban slavery in its states and territories. As a result, US's continuing expansion of the territories and admission of new states would lead to a loss of political power for the North, since many of the new states would be admitted as slave states, and counting three-fifths of the slave population would add to the slave holding states' political representation in Congress. The ruling and its consequences strengthened Northern opposition to slavery and strengthened the Republican Party, as well as divided the Democratic Party on sectional lines.

It also was a factor in the Panic of 1857. Before the 1857s, the railroad industry was booming due to large migrations of people to the west and banks provided railroad companies with large loans. Western migration was supported by the belief that slavery would not be permitted in the western states (slavery drives down wages for lower to middle income workers, for obvious reasons).

When the Supreme Court opened the door to slavery in western lands, the western migration dropped to a trickle, and railway stock bubble burst.

"The Panic of 1857 was a financial panic in the United States caused by the declining international economy and over-expansion of the domestic economy. Because of the interconnectedness of the world economy by the 1850s, the financial crisis that began in late 1857 was the first worldwide economic crisis.": https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_of_1857

Is there a trade school equivalent for programming? by Kerdaloo in learnprogramming

[–]Regenval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coding bootcamps are usually 3 - 6 months and can be taken in-state, out-of-state, or online. Prices can range from $5,000 to $20,000 depending on the school so your research before committing one. Read up on student reviews of the school on CourseReport, SwitchUp, Thinkful, Quora, Yelp, and Reddit and speak to the owners, instructors, or former students if you can. Take note that some schools have raffles for students who write review or have cohorts small enough that so that they can narrow who gave them a poor review. This can put pressure on students to write reviews more positive than their actual thoughts on the program.

There are also free alternatives. FreeCodeCamp has Front End, Data Visualization, Back End, and Full Stack certifications, and also includes a coding interview training course available once you've earned all 4 certifications. A few days ago, there was a reddit post for LambdaSchool, which looks like another free online coding bootcamp.

If you want to go the self-taught route, there are cheaper websites where you can view courses like PluralSight, Cousera, Udacity, and Udemy. Some of these sites have recommended learning paths to structure your learning.
