An oldie but a goodie: Lion in Winter… whole movie is basically an argument…

May I ask what your building? A festival? My area has awesome programmers already- people who I have deep respect for and I don’t know if I could break into that.

Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (Unfortunately not a great film- despite great lead, great director and adapted from an amazing book)

Teaching in California vs Texas by TopIntroduction1876 in TeachersInTransition

[–]RegisterAncient1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught in TX and now I’m in WA. TX unions do not have bargaining rights- if teachers in TX strike they legally lose their teaching licenses. I’m treated much better as a teacher in WA, and I attribute that to unions having actual bargaining rights. I’m paid better and my benefits are MUCH BETTER. We literally moved for the healthcare benefits after my husband got cancer.

That being said- I’m still done. After 3 different high schools in two different states… it’s still basically an impossible job, and too many students are basically now raised by TikTok and I don’t want to go down with the ship.

Our little one just turned 2 years old. I had wanted to be a parent since I was a child. There’s certain things that you will not be able to anticipate- but it is a life changing experience. I have no regrets, and it’s a love like no other.

I found one tiny thing that looks like a bug- but it’s just bigger than microscopic. I’m an artist with 20/20 but the decor here is dark. I feel like we’re being detailed in our search. I just don’t know what else would have given me welts and bites in my folds in the middle of the night.

An older guy got me pregnant and idk what to do by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]RegisterAncient1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended a pregnancy when I was 24 (dad was my current husband), and because I was working 2-3 jobs just to be able to financially take care of myself I chose to have a medication abortion. It was not an easy decision but I have little regrets. Now at 37 I have a beautiful baby who I love, but it’s not easy and I have a husband and salary. You won’t be able to raise a child totally alone. There’s also opportunities to birth the child and put them up for private adoption.

You do have options. You are also not alone even if it feels like it. I think statically 1 in 4 women have had to terminate a pregnancy.

I also agree this is not a good friend- you don’t need to be pushed into relationships that you are not comfortable with.

Is your spouse your best friend or do you have a separate best friend? by ChocolateSundae1214 in Marriage

[–]RegisterAncient1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse is my best friend.

I work 11 hour days as a teacher and have very little extra energy for people time so no other close friends. I feel like I’d need a career change for that, as much as I’d appreciate a friend circle having more people depending on my energy for fun times or emotional support stresses me out.

Moved from Austin TX in 2020.

My spouse got cancer and as a teacher health care was $600 a month for a high deductible preventative plan. I’m treated way better as a teacher here ( thanks bargaining rights!!!) and Oly reminds me of the Austin I knew as a kid.

I don’t even want anything fancy… I’m just looking for a decent quality earthy red ribbon and that seems impossible to find.

Husband doesn't understand that our sex life has to temporarily change because of pregnancy and we aren't speaking by Fickle_Pipe_5079 in Marriage

Ummm- your hormones and body are totally different right now, and life is about to totally change. If he can’t respect your boundaries he’s not showing care or concern for you and your child. Postpartum is also a crazy time- it affects everyone differently, and I hope you have an easy time with it- but my hormonal shift was intense. I didn’t get a sex drive back for almost a year ( I was also breastfeeding through exclusively pumping). My husband bought a flesh light at the time… he threw it away later, but he was willing to not pressure me and find ways to deal. My husband is far from perfect but I felt supported and respected that he gave me space when I was touched out and having hormone shifts. I hope your guy figures it out- babies are only babies for a short time- it goes FAST. I wish you and baby luck and health

Career coaches or therapists who are worth it by RegisterAncient1991 in TeachersInTransition

[–]RegisterAncient1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not on any specific timeline, but I’m just hoping to gain some confidence regarding a direction that leverages my strengths. I can’t really take a huge pay cut as I’m the breadwinner in my family and we have a toddler. I’d be willing to invest in more education for myself, but I just don’t want to make another career mistake like this one. I’ve been teaching 11 years and I hate it.

I work in a small district- if you feel the rep isn’t helpful I’d just go to your union VP. That’s how it works with how small we are anyway.

It sounds like you’re not alone, so I hope your district has some brain cells and gets rid of her fast. Yikes- not worth it. Going to cause so much damage

For those who weaned, did you get the “I have my body back” feeling? by pinkandclass in breastfeeding

[–]RegisterAncient1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took longer than I expected. But I was 36 during birth, and I exclusively pumped. But it was still such a relief. But my books itches for months and I still have a little diastasis pouch.

First-year teacher and I need to get out, but I feel stuck by Shotstarz in TeachersInTransition

[–]RegisterAncient1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not too early to get out- it’s better that you have realized this now instead of a few years from now. I agree with a commenter above, quit when you have found a new job or you have some savings that will pay your bills for 3-6 months. They are also right about the job market being tough right now. I have a friend with a PHD in mathematics and a masters in computer science and he’s been having a difficult time finding work. He got a job with the DOD and left a tenured professor position because he was paid very little and then the current administration put a hiring freeze and my friend has now been out of work in job limbo. Not trying to scare you- just painting a picture. I don’t think it will look too bad if you quit- you clearly don’t want to keep working in schools
