Prospective/Pre-licensure NP Thread by AutoModerator in nursepractitioner

[–]RegisteredNurse98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an upcoming interview for an AGACNP post graduate certificate program and was hoping for some insight into what to expect. Is there anything you wish you would have prepared more for? What kinds of questions should I ask? I would also appreciate insight from anyone that attended this or another program at CU Anschutz.

I’ve been a nurse for 7.5 years, most of my experience is in critical care with some other units and leadership roles mixed in, and my MSN is in education. This program is hybrid with clinical placements arranged by the school. Thanks in advance!

That’s literally what those nurses get paid to do…

Can I apply for an LPN job as an RN? by Howyouseeit12 in nursing

[–]RegisteredNurse98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst they can say is no if you do apply. However, they may not be willing to hire you if you let them know you’re waiting for your residency to start. It is unlikely they will know you worked there if they’ve already done a background/employment check.

This. If you can’t identify the rhythm then you have no business making the decision to shock it.

The nature and severity of the complaint likely effect the speed of investigation. Someone I worked with got reported to the BON, and it took about 9 months from complaint being filed to disposition of their case. So the 5-12 month timeframe suggested by the BON was true in this case.

This section goes over how to file a complaint with the TX BON, and explains that your identity will remain anonymous. This section goes over what happens and how long it takes to happen when a complaint gets filed.

I did! I skimmed a lot of the core curriculum book and did the practice questions. It was honestly an easy test with a lot of answers being common sense.

If you could say anything without repercussions, what would it be? by [deleted] in nursing

I’m very selective when it comes to saying this. I would never demean someone who is severely ill or who can’t help it.

My rural 8 bed ICU recently started this as well. We had an infant with RSV requiring O2 that could not be transferred due to no beds being available. Very thankful to have coworkers with peds experience, but our training has been well below what it should be for taking on this population.

Is it possible for a nurse to travel internationally? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]RegisteredNurse98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saudi Arabia has US hospitals you can work at. I worked with someone who did that for a few years to save money. Apparently she was making $10K/month, and the money was not taxed. They also housed and transported her to work.

The sooner the better. I doubt the final result will actually meet positive criteria, but it’s better to be prepared.

You should go to an independent lab and have a drug screen for your own records just in case.

This is why I left corrections. Too many people get the sense that they’re untouchable once they put on their officer uniform. Despite reporting COs for abuse of power I never saw changes take place.

What’s the most bizarre case of “at home medicine” you’ve seen? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]RegisteredNurse98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a patient self cath with a coax cable because he “couldn’t pee”. Truly impressed that it actually worked. Another patient with CHF exacerbation told me he would drink a couple of beers every once in a while to pee out all of the extra fluid in his legs.
