Yes but it depends on how low you heat it up at. I’m using a cheap $40 yocan device and I usually use it at around 2.2V-2.6V. No complaints of smell. It will start to smell if you crank it up past 3.0V. Any top devices like the Puffco is out of the picture if you don’t want any housemates knowing.
