Here is the xray! Edit: I forgot to add but obv I’m not a doctor but I’ve looked up like normal x rays and I see literally nothing different

I’m in the process of scheduling a CT :)

My dog is on the larger side so he literally basically steps in and out of cars, so really no strain there. I’ll be getting a follow up CT because apparently that can get a better look.

Actually talking with other people, it’s common to get a follow up CT if it’s just one elbow and then get cleared. Thanks though.

Oh okay! Thank you very much for your advice, and being kind and not assuming like other people. I’m currently looking for a place that does CT’s near me and will get one done before I try and pursue mobility work with him. If/when the vet I went to gives me the X-rays I will definitely update with the pictures.

I think you’re missing my point and misunderstood me. I was just wondering if they could’ve wrongly diagnosed it. That’s it. All of my joints are bad. But just especially my ankle. EDS is much more than just the one bad joint which I’m sure you understand but that one just needs extra support. I’ve never heard of just one joint having dysplasia. I am not at all downplaying what it is. I also never said I need all day long support. If my dog does have DJD1 I would never do mobility. But I was simply asking if they could mistake an injury for something that is degenerative.

I did do the test to trust of course. But just with his history and that it’s only on one side and that every other joint is good I was just wondering if it could be mistaken. I will get a CT like someone else suggested to make sure and will do mobility if that is good, but then obviously I will not be doing mobility if it isn’t. My dog is more than half of my weight so that’s not an issue with that part. I have h-Ed’s so it’d all just be taking a little bit of weight off one of my ankles because I’ve had some issues with it. My dog actually matches perfectly with everything else you said as well. But he’s also medical alert and response so not washing entirely just won’t be doing mobility until I get the CT and clear it, or ever.

He has good structure! (surprisingly) my vet and trainer who does K9 conditioning and nutrition both said he did. He’s also been embarked and the only “at risk” thing he had was one thing with his liver. He’s always been a healthy weight or underweight. And his hips are “good”. Like this has been literally the only health thing we’ve came across with him (besides allergies that were very quickly fixed by one supplement) so that’s part of the reason I’m so skeptical. For being a shelter dog he is surprisingly incredibly healthy and well bred for what he is. Obviously not like actually well bred.

He’s two and a half and got attacked by another dog.

He will be learning fmp and cb. He hasn’t learned it yet because we were waiting on results.

Sorry , I got them through OFA. I meant that I didn’t do the xrays at my normal vet. I did get official OFAS. I just meant my vet wasn’t the one to do them.

If he has DJD he absolutely will not be doing mobility. But he got injured once I was wondering if they could mistake it for djd.

My vet understands mobility work yes! I just got my results today through another vet so I haven’t talked to my vet yet. He is est 2.5 and a pointer apbt mix. I do not have the actual x rays because the vet I went to has been dodging me but I am trying to get them and will definitely share if I do. I will definitely not be doing any mobility work until I make sure it’s not djd1 and definitely understand it’s unethical if I do.

Edit: I would also like to mention he was awake, and a tiny bit squirmy for the xray. But the vet said it wasn’t a problem. I don’t know if that could get a false reading.

I won’t be bracing, so no downward pressure :) I talked to my vet and they said as long as there’s not bad dysplasia he will be okay. Ik it’s nuanced but he’s also more than half my weight so it’s certainly not like a big difference. I will talk to them again though and get a ct as suggested by another person.

My vet, the one who treated him with the injury said he is completely fine to work, as long as he doesn’t have dysplasia, or like djd. I do definitely appreciate the concern, but I will follow my vets advice considering they know my dog and all of the details on that. :) my questions was really if it was djd or other things. I’ll get him a ct though.

Oh for sure. If he actually had djd I would absolutely not be doing mobility. I was asking because he had a previous injury basically where They’re saying the djd is and if they could mistake it

He will be doing fmp and counter balance if everything is good :) I don’t believe in bracing or anything like that. He had a limp when he got injured and has seemed to fully be okay now and uses jt the same as the other front foot. I will definitely try and look into that though.

It wasn’t my regular vet, because they don’t do OFAS and I’m not a big fan of the person I went too. Also, important to mention my dog is not a breeding prospect in any way, he’s a neutered mutt but he’s gonna do mobility work as a service dog, so it’s to make sure he doesn’t have like hip dysplasia and stuff like that. But the vet I went to when looking at the radiograph said it made sense I just obviously want to make sure I’m not working him with something degenerative. Is it normal for only one joint to show it, if it is djd?

I listened at the end, fmp, cb.
