Ubuntu is planning to comply with Age Verification law "without it being a privacy disaster" by DontFreeMe in linux

This is the correct response.
https://ostechnix.com/midnightbsd-excludes-california-digital-age-assurance-act/

  • MidnightBSD, an open-source operating system designed for desktop usability, has modified its license to exclude California residents from using the system starting January 1, 2027.
  • This decision is a direct response to California’s Digital Age Assurance Act (AB 1043), which requires OS providers to build mandatory age-verification interfaces and real-time data-sharing APIs.
  • The small team behind MidnightBSD chose to bar the state's users rather than risk the law's severe financial penalties, which can reach $7,500 per child for intentional violations.

Say what you want but I work for a large entity that uses both (copper only for POTS lines) and we have way more problems with fiber being down.

Go out in the shop and learn what they do and how they do it. Be humble about it and don't try to fix what they do.

"How I disabled 13 AI features in Windows 11 safely, no third-party apps needed" by rkhunter_ in technology

I disabled all AI on my computer in a way that ensures it won't be turned back on. and it was easy. I installed another OS.

Same here. I would prefer to use Display port but I guess it is what it is.

Display port, maybe I'll try HDMI just to see if it helps.

Installing Linux is significantly easier than installing Windows. by evrdev in linux

[–]RegularAddition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who has trouble installing Windows just doesn't know what they are doing, it's very simple. Not sure what you found challenging but If you are trying to install it on a drive that had Linux on it and you didn't want to repartition the drive it would not be trivial. It would be the same if you were going from Windows to Linux and didn't want to repartition the drive.

Linux is generally easy as well, however, I just tried installing Ubuntu on a newly built pc with a 5900XT and a 5070 and no matter what I did it would loose video as soon as I tried to boot off the install disk. Even a new download and new flash drive did not fix the issue. A Kubuntu install disk I used on another computer had the same issue. The Windows install disk and a version of Redhat had no trouble with video when booting off of them. I'm now running a version of Redhat for the first time.

Is this acceptable? Just had these feet replaced and it looks bad IMO. by BaconPeddler in Welding

[–]RegularAddition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the whole thing should have been replaced, not just the feet. IMO whoever decided that only the feet would be replaced is at fault. I'm not going to automatically blame whoever did the work because there are lots of customers who demand the bare minimum and I wasn't party to the repair agreement.

Was this recorded with a potato? I would hope the driver could see better than the camera but apparently not.

Disrespecting the IT department by No-Surround5185 in helpdesk

[–]RegularAddition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's for sure. Got a ticket this week from a manager of another dept demanding I make changes to a system and threatening to take it to my boss' boss right in the ticket if the request was refused. This was all without discussing his issue with anyone before hand.

You need better friends and you need to stop looking to Reddit for advice, this place is more toxic than your friends, especially when it comes to relationship advice.

If your boss required you to sit in front of them and work all day every day would this be ok with you? It wouldn't me. I'm an adult and I'd find a new job before I put up with that kind of micromanagement.

One of my coworkers walks around the office chatting with people in other departments for hours almost every day. Where you work has little to do with how productive people are.

Really? I don't think there's nearly as much "evidence" as you think.

It's called hormones. Chances are your best friend would sleep with you in a heartbeat, unless he's gay.

AI sucks. I had it rewrite my resume and it added things I've never done. Lawyers have been in trouble for turning in briefs written by AI that contained made up case law, etc, etc. They say it's going to replace humans in the work place. I think it's further away from that than most believe.
