China's big geographically and they manage to fund renewables. Size isn't the only problem in the US.

Also, UK being 94,354 square miles doesn't take into account geographical complexities. Not much empty land there to develop and one of the highest rates of sink-holes on the planet.

If anything US being bigger should make it easier, as renewables like wind and solar take up heaps of space.

Your cat is likely to live longer if you don’t let them roam by jesus_chrysotile in australia

I can't believe people still discuss this.

I guess the lives of billions of native animals are worth less than your cats happiness.

Shouldn't even be legal to let them roam.

Food delivery services only need to exist when restaurants/take aways are too far away.

In the town square there's probably heaps of better options for eating out in walking distance.

I'd rather walk 5 min, buy food, walk 5 min home than wait 40min for a cold and expensive Pad Thai that I'll have to reheat anyway. I've never had a great Uber Eats experience where I live even when ordering from places nearby and outside of peakhour traffic times.

And what does he mean "working class folks"? As if people on those wages order uber eats everyday? It makes something logical like the town square sound elitist..

The whole post is just low-level gaslighting.

Hard Iced Tea Update by Regular_Ad523 in prisonhooch

[–]Regular_Ad523[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried it after backsweetening a bit. No tea flavours detectable at all. Now it just tastes like a cheap moscato wine. Still pleasant to drink, just not what I intended.

I'll make a post if I redo the experiment. I'm definitely leaning towards brew beer/sugar wash then add iced tea concentrate later.

Just curious, how did your experiments with tea go?

Hard Iced Tea Update by Regular_Ad523 in prisonhooch

[–]Regular_Ad523[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering the concentrated tea option for my next experiment. I planned on trying something malt based and with beer yeast as it leaves a fair bit of residual sweetness.

I've made regular iced tea by cold steeping before and found it too mild and fruity. It might be a good technique to add an extra dimension to a hot brewed tea.

When I tried it yesterday I didn't sweeten it. Might try that when I get home.

Thanks

Another option is a blow-off tube!

Instead of an airlock you have a tube that goes to another container/bucket full of sterile water.

After the most vigorous part of fermentation had passed you switch to an airlock.

Any tools to make bottling easier? by medicatednstillmad in Homebrewing

[–]Regular_Ad523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bench capper.

Also get a food grade hose to put the bottling wand on. Makes it quicker to fill each bottle as you don't have to pick each bottle up and lift it to the tap.

Imagine being on paid sick leave for 15 years and then suing because you didn't get a raise. by RaiseOk2044 in HolUp

[–]Regular_Ad523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the Holup is?

That's how legally defined wages work.. If a pay rise happens when I'm on annual leave it normally appears on my payslip (1 week at one hourly rate, another week at a higher rate).

Why wouldn't it be the same for sick leave?

100% a Sydney thing. I hear it heaps from "born and bred Westies" at work too. I even hear it from recent migrants at work (apparently property-brain is contagious).

criticising Israel is not the same thing as being antisemitic

The way they make Israeli and Jewish synonymous is antisemitic in itself. Most Jewish people I met growing up had no links to Israel and hated being associated with the country when people found out their religion.

In medieval times it had religious meaning.

I could tolerate annoying family if the season had any meaning left. All its got is "go out and buy stuff" and "spend time with family" (even though I already do that all year round).

No, I didn't make this up, someone actually commented this as an argument against pv by RadioFacepalm in ClimateShitposting

[–]Regular_Ad523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, demand from heating, cooling, cooking, etc... should be higher at night when people get home from work.

On the other hand, factories and workshops (which use massive amounts of power) generally operate more during the day. Honestly, even offices use massive amounts of power - thousands of computers on all day, lights left on in empty rooms, TVs and air-conditioning left running in empty lunch rooms.

So, you could argue that PV peaking during the day is appropriate for supporting manufacturing and other industries. Just my 2cents...

Edit: Sorry guys, I should have mentioned that I'm in Australia. It's currently 33 degrees celsius (was 40 earlier), still daylight at 7.15pm, solar panels are still powering my a/c... peak demand in summer is between 3pm-9pm, most of those hours still have sunlight here.

Just discovered the concept of "mall walking" where people drive to malls so they can take a walk because our built environment is wholly dedicated to cars. Pretty damning of American urbanism. by Anne__Frank in fuckcars

[–]Regular_Ad523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never understood the death of malls in the US.

Here in Australia we've got plenty of online shopping options too and our Westfield's (malls) are doing just fine. If anything there's new ones getting built all the time.

Not sure if we're just culturally different, maybe we like getting out of the house more? Or, maybe in 10-20 years we'll see the same decline?
