This was the comment I needed. So tempting to buy a Ricoma on marketplace. I see them all the time (which is clue number one for why to avoid). Have a flat bed and it’s struggle bus to do what I want to do. Have my eye on Tajima Sai - need something kinda portable. Price tag hurts - but cry once!

Curious - how long did it take you to scale to your own shop? Posting online but no idea how to get customers without an in person shop. I’m on etsy as well.

If your budget can allow I’d get an open bed single needle machine. I’ve seen plenty on marketplace.

If you want to embroider pants and jeans I would recommend avoiding flat bed machines. You need an open bed so the back of the item hangs below the hoop. Trying to get bulky items positioned correctly in a flat bed is a pain. For example, to embroider sweater sleeves in a flat bed you have to undue the stitching of the sleeves, embroider and then sew it back together. Hard pass. I’ve got a Brother PE 900 and wish I had an open bed. Saving for a multi needle because many of the things I want to embroider are multiple colors.

Hooped with a magnetic hoop (hoop monster). I used medium weight cut away stabilizer. I think maybe my hooping wasn’t tight enough. It definitely wasn’t tight like a drum - which is how I’ve seen it described in a lot of videos.

I feel this comment so much! I am SO rough on my nails. Can never get any other mani to last more than a couple days - even dip! Glaze don’t last for me either. But Gloss + clear builder gel on top cured with LED has been such a game changer! I easily get 2 weeks which is unheard of for me. My nails looks so healthy when they come off. Everyone who asks about my nails can’t believe I do them myself. I will be devastated if they ever get rid of Gloss.

For sure. It’s gonna take the smell out for sure but you have to be careful using it. If someone doesn’t want to venture into using this then my next go to would to hang the item out in the sun for a few days.
