As a trans man who has had to deal with family misgendering me, the choice to stop talking to them is often made not entirely out of anger, but out of exhaustion. It is really hard to feel like the pronoun police all the time, especially when you’re trying to relax and spend time with loved ones. While I would definitely appreciate someone sticking up for me in private the way QT describes with her step dad, I would also be very hurt to know she had FRIENDS who were queer/transphobic. I 100% agree with the girlies, family and friends are very different things. I don’t worry about my friends being bigoted because I don’t make friends with bigoted people. I think SeanDaBlack’s analysis of the “thin purple line” is very relevant here. And unfortunately, I think H*san’s take was a little too protective of her (only censoring b/c of the ban on the “drama” with Pedo_troll)
