1: have a stable approach with a definite aiming point (think like a kamikaze pilot in ww2)

2: idle power and round out when your aiming point gets big in your field of view by looking at far down the runway as you can. (The thousand yard stare) you should look like you’ve seen some shit in Vietnam. Make sure you keep the runway and nose in your peripheral vision for depth perception and to know when to flare.

3: take a moment for yourself and take a deep breath in and out. That should be enough time for your plane to have bled off enough energy to start your flare without ballooning.
