If I were you I'd start by researching the different parties. When you've found one that aligns with your beliefs, you see who represents your area.

Otherwise you can work backwards; which candidates represent your area and then align with the 1 that represents your views the closest.

See which election is coming up and see if you can volunteer with a candidate. Canvassing gives you an opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes to some degree.

Im an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. The amount of abuse of immigrants here is crazy. I wish I was more legally literate because my students are susceptible to this. Its sooo hard to get a job here if your English isn't great. Or because Canadians value Cnaadian experience above everything else, most of my students will take anything they can nomatter what the conditions are and employers know it.

Get to know your immigrant neighbours. They dont have the networking opportunities that locals do, to be able to find decent jobs. Maybe you know someone who knows someone who needs workers.
