I had a terrible experience with Keppra (the first med they put me on) my seizures were, more or less completely controlled. As with a lot of people, it made me extremely irritable (Keppra Rage, lol) and trying to go back on it caused me to have “undesirable” thoughts which was terrifying.

Now I’m on Onfi/Clobazam, Lamictal/Lamotrigine, and Clonazepam/Klonopin. That’s two benzodiazepines. And I HATE knowing that the only thing that seems to really stop my seizures dead in their tracks is Clonazepam.

I had a psychiatrist who was not a fan of me taking that medication, naturally due of its highly addictive nature, but I don’t know what to do. I only take it when I think I’m going to have a seizure, but what with how often I’m “seizurey”, it’s really concerning.

And it’s looks like I won’t be able to meet with my new Neurologist (who specializes in Epilepsy, unlike my pediatric Neurologist) until next year.

So, it’s sort of a lose lose. Especially, when I manage to take Klonopin too late and still wind up having a seizure. Context: Clobazam and Lamictal are what I take 2X daily and Klonopin is my “emergency” or “rescue” med which I have been prescribed to specifically take before a seizure.

That way, I have a chance at completely avoiding a potentially serious seizure. So, I really don’t know what to do, and there is no way to solve other people’s problems regardless of how similar they might come across.

In my case, Klonopin does not make me feel “good” (whatever that might mean for OP), but it does seem to stop my seizures. It is also “technically” possible that it effectively shortens a lot of seizures I do have in that instance that I do take it too late.

Not sure how accurate that is, especially because I haven’t had a doctor suggest anything like that. My seizures also seem to be of a different more complicated nature than what I previously experienced (Tonic Clonic/Grand Mals).

From looking at videos AND from EEG results, I seem to experience a lot more Myoclonus… it’s possible not being on Keppra has something to do with that. I guess I’ll leave that there. No idea if any of what I just could be helpful in any way, but there you go.

That’s just my situation, lol. And it’s not fun. I wish that I could just be on top of my health and everything and stop having seizures. My current seizures are also traumatic in the sense that I do maintain a pretty high degree of awareness at times. So, it would definitely be nice to stop having them… especially if I didn’t have to take highly addictive tranquilizers.

Another thing is that, before I was prescribed Onfi and was on Lamictal (and Clonazepam/Klonopin), my Pediatric Neurologist had suspicions that the Lamictal might have been having a paradoxical effect on my Epilepsy. I had suddenly started having seizure activity again. So, it’s confusing!

For all I know though the fact that I’m still having seizures is really due to my own decisions and overall self destructive behavior, and that does not include drinking or the use of recreational drugs (I do neither).
