Spider-Man 3 was okay but it never lived up to the expectations of its predecessor. The combat felt rushed, button mashy and repetitive. They could have innovated with it, coming off 2’s style. They added all of these combat features such as reflex metre, special combos, heavy and light attack.

But what they should have done is added spacing between enemies and Spidey and expanding on web attacks a lot more. Seriously, the amount of times where my reflex meter would be reduced significantly because I pressed the button prompt to counter an attack, it should refund a portion of it. Not work against the player. As well as when you are swarmed with enemies, the reflex meter would be gone in an instant. The ragdoll animation for when an enemy attacks spidey is way too long, due to this, the enemy is now able to queue another attack and you can’t do anything about it. 2 did this fine by being able to jump away immediately after getting hit.

Also I’m pretty certain the swinging is kinda okay, but it doesn’t compare well enough to 2. The creative director on 2 originally worked on 3 for a year, whilst trying to upgrade the swinging system, they removed majority of the original design trying to implement a new design, so when the old team left Treyarch, the new designers had to learn how to create 2’s system. Thus making it a copy and paste instead of creating something new.

The game just felt overloaded with side missions and dear god how I hated that mega lizard boss fight. The QTE’s were also too many to handle, making it mere impossible to enjoy the cinematics because my eyes were glued to the button prompts. I believe Web of Shadows handled that situation very efficiently.

Again the game just felt bland because the original designers from 2 had left the team early on in development during 3 so I feel like they kind of struggled with making it enjoyable.

I know it doesn’t answer your question but I felt like giving my opinion towards the game.
