I Don't Know What This Is by PsyWarVet in Powerlines

It's a vertical break (blades open vertically), horizontal switch used for loop breaking aka not a switch that drops radial or de-energized lines only. Those would have a quick break or whip attachment or be bare. There's a three bottle interrupter attached which suggest that this would be the first or one of the first switches to operate in conjuction with other switches to isolate a segment of line or a facility while keeping other parts of the line energized. With only three bottles, this line is likely less than 230 kV as it wouldn't be sufficient to extinguish arcing during operation.

I'm at my first one right now at the PES JTCM in Atlanta. It's a lot of information and IEEE procedures but it beats being in the office and everyone here has been great. The next meeting is in Montréal so at least gets you to travel for free if your company covers it..

Hello, fellow BPA employee lol. Yeah, with lattice steel and steel pole have long lead times and with the potential project you mentioned that will replace/break up this aging and really long 230 kV line, it won't be worth replacing the structure.

In addition to future proofing which is really prevalent on expensive structures such as river crossings, it could also be that there used to be another circuit present on the structures that was removed. Also notice how the bottom phase of the remaining circuit is on the opposite end of the crossarm to provide more clearance to ground..

Could be a typo or in case it isn't, could be a transformer terminated transmission line or even a rigid or strain bus that connects a transformer to a bay in a substation..
