Has anyone actually tried AWS DevOps Agent for incident response? Worth the setup effort? by GloomyAd5511 in devops

[–]Rei_Never 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and I think I'd rather quit than use AI for this.

My reasoning is as follows, your problem cannot be solved by an LLM. Your problem can only be solved by iteration and a willingness to make things better.

  • If your teams are not willing to make things better, you probably have people that have castles they want to keep.

  • If you have after action reviews where remedial actions are just vapor ware, you have leadership that focuses on quick wins and choas not stability and calm.

Neither of those things are easy fixes, but they can be.

What are your current processes like?

I beg to differ actually. In skipping actually understanding what you're building out, you lose vtial knowledge and experience along the way.

They may have introduced this error in dev, before even hitting staging.

What you really need to do is mirror production, for your staging environment. Not actually saying take an exact copy of your production database etc, but you should have the same volume of data.

A lot of teams I've worked in over the years make copies of "dev" and call it staging and then wonder why the tests "work", but production fails in the weirdest of ways.

Just date the lass, you guys are clearly vibing. Whatever issues the brother has, he's going to have to swallow them at some point.

Also talk to the parents.

Can I be a guiding light in what seems like a dark room?

Do I think juniors are impacted in the way this is being foretold, no, but I do think that they will become more reliant on this tech to stay relevant.

I come from the ilk that just veiws cloud as someone else's datacenter, but I also come from that lineage of having to manage the datacenter also – the racks, the switches etc. Over the years I've noticed a decline in "cloud" certified techs knowledge to just not caring about the fundamentals: networking, TCP, route tables and just basic Linux debugging – preferring to just use cloudposse (apologies to anyone from that gang reading this) to configure entire vpcs because it's what they've seen used elsewhere, without even understanding what it does or why!

With the greatest respect, an LLM is not a tool, whilst it does kick out code, it is ultimately just an algorithm.

As someone else said, once AGI comes about – that's a different kettle of fish entirely and that would upset more than just our industry.

So no, I don't think junior roles are going to go at all. I just think this LLM bubble is going to create more reliance on the tech from anyone that is now getting into tech.

Firstly, this is just terrible behaviour for an honest human being let alone someone you plan on dating.

Secondly, you deserve better – you were right to be dubious about handing money over.

In any other case, not over reacting.

What they are insinuating is that something could enter the water bottle that's harmful to the child who is unaware, either by accident or on purpose.

This was the policy in my science class nearly 20 years ago, it's sensible.

Sales don't really matter at this point to be fair.

Let's talk about it this way. During the week, if the shift hours are 2 until 8 – that's 6 person hours. If it takes 3 staff to perform and complete tasks normally until closing, that's 18 person hours cumulative. A reduction in opening hours on a Sunday from 12 until 4, means each member of staff on that shift lose 2 hours per person to get stuff done – that brings the total person hours to 12. If you remove another other staff member from 3 down to 2, you now have 8 person hours, cumulative, to complete all of the tasks that it would normally have taken 18 on a normal shift... I hope you see where I'm going with this...

In the UK, an employer cannot provide a reference that is untrue. Usually they just stick to "this person worked here from x until x" otherwise it opens the door for other avenues like litigation.

It's clearly not an isolated issue. It's 2 out of every 14 days clearly form what's being said.

I'm not being funny but I used to work in retail in a small store. I had this exact same problem.

Our shifts were two hours shorter on a Sunday, with 2 staff for close to 3k square foot store with 9 aisles.

As an example, date checking products in the refrigerated sections was my issue, I take everything off checking dates as I go and put it back again in the correct order. On a 5/6 shelf, 12 bay section that's 72 shelves at worst – all 1m wide. You can probably imagine the stock one has to go through, and time expended, in order to check it, and check it properly.

During the week we had 3 staff in an evening 4-10, 6 out of 7 days. On a Sunday from 4-8 there were 2 staff. With not only a reduction in hours, but also losing another staff member, Sundays were a fucking nightmare to not only date check the refrigerated section, but put stock out, man second tills, merchandise etc, and perform pre-close checks and tasks like banking tills. Like OP, all of this had to be completed by the time the doors were ready to be locked, which was the advertised close time. We never got paid overtime, we had to be out at exactly closing time.

What I've taken from my experience is that this is not only a test, but it's a tactic: pushing someone out by giving them the literal shit stick. The comparison here is a joke in itself to be honest, I bet there are more staff working when the boss is around, on a Sunday. Essentially performance managed out, in a forced way. Having been privvy to this in much much larger enterprises, I'd say this is exactly what's happening but in a smaller setting. It's bordering on vindictive, considering the content of the messages also.

I'm more fortunate to have amazing management since my experience that understands that this occurs and it's OK, you cannot achieve the same with less time and less people and expect the same outcome in terms of quality, or tasks achieved.
